I saw the post about those weapon variations, and I thought that it would be cool that instead of finding those weapons, we find the blueprint to make the parts on a special crafting bench, then we take it to an outpost vendor (similar to E.A.S.A.L.) who will put all the parts together for us for an amount of pixels. Before we claim it, we then name it and make a description. The stats are determined by the armor we wear. Each armor tier has a range for each stats. This makes it so that we don't have a complete RNG to make us a 92 damage sword while we need something in the 1000-1250 range, and since we don't get to chose, we don't have a 4000+ damage sword to carry us through the game. Color is chosen during the parts crafting. Parts work as such: Sword (both): Blade, Guard (also determines hilt), Handle Spear: Tip, Shaft, End Knife: Blade, Handle Axe: Blade, Handle/Shaft (whatever it's called), End Hammer: Head, Handle/Shaft, End You should also be able to buy parts and/or shields from the vendor.
yeah if depending on the power of the weapon parts you have, change how powerful or how fast you can make something. like if you had pretty bad parts, you wouldn't be able to choose if the weapon was particularly fast or powerful. but with better parts, it gives you that option to make the weapon really fast or really powerfull
Just tossing my $0.02 in here. Maybe, instead of working off of your armor, you toss in a bit of the metal for the tier you want. Want a tier three gun? Toss in some titanium. Also, maybe we could throw weapons into the 3D printer, or have a separate 3D printer just for weapons. Throw in a sword, and it remembers the blade, hilt, and pommel each. That way, you can have multiple instances of the same blueprint.
Just as a suggestion - to control the damage issue - instead of creating a new custom weapon, have it customise an existing one. Bring in a sword throw it in the machine it comes out with the same stats just a different look and name...
What about a schematic category that you fill with materials. Certain materials work for certain kinds of weapons and the materials you use determine the quality of the weapons. If you use some special materials then you can get the special powers that come on some of the weapons. So to make a 1-handed sword you would need: (Handle)(Hilt)(Blade)(Option) and you can fill each with a different material to get combined effects. Each material can do something for each slot. Some do more damage while others make it faster. The option spot can be filled with poison water/toxic waste/or whatever to add in some kind of bonus. This could then work with armor and projectiles too. You may have to find all the different blue prints to make various kinds or to add in other qualities, but it could all work seemingly easily.
