So I came up with this idea while reading the content list, and this is basically how it goes: You can craft blank, white canvases of different sizes depending on how much material you use. You can then freely draw on that canvas (pixelart obviously). You then get to name it, and the name of the painting and your name gets printed on the tooltip, eg. "Inward poop" by Dolan Duck You can then either place this for decoration, or you can sell this to your friends! Obviously you could be able to import small picture files to use. If on a public server, people can report offensive paintings that are shown to the admin, who then chooses to: - Delete the painting - Delete all the paintings that this player made - Delete all the paintings that this player made and block him from placing paintings Discuss.
As an artist, I support this idea. (As long as we can also import images from our computer, that part is critical to me. Would hate to redraw something every time I wanted to put it up somewhere)
Yeah, but imported picture files would have to be checked by an admin first. I wouldnt want to see a server covered in genitals.
This would be really cool! Even if they don't add it into the game, there should be a mod of some sort.
I strongly disagree with this, I would much rather not put work into a little 60x40 and have it pixelated to hell the second I import it into the game. If people want pixelated art, make pixelated art, don't force it upon others.
Custom paintings is a nice idea, I could style my house in a nice way, I like it. I could imagine the creativity of people if this was in the game, for servers it would be a great thing to display and feature for certain people that may have done a good painting. You should probably be able to keep/name it so if you might accidentally break it, you'll still have it to put back up, so no one gets upset after their 30-hour long masterpiece goes away. It could also be a possibility for companies and such in-game to have employees of the week and their player displayed upon a canvas, I think there would be some sightings of unnecessary, inappropriate and disgusting images created though...
See, now this one really comes down to two things. 1. opinion, you might find something offensive that other people do not, don't make a big deal about it, stay respectful and nobody views you as an annoying brat (great life tip there btw) 2. Removing a feature because of what it can be used for is completely, 100%, ridiculous. I mean, following that chain of logic block-based building, player customization in all forms, etc etc should all be removed cause someone might make something which offends some poor little person's delicate sensitivities. (Not directed at you really Simplicity, more at the more extreme attitude related to that bit I quoted some people I have seen seem to have.)
Best idea: Make it server based. You run a kid friendly server, don't allow it. Mature server? You get the feature. It's like Sprays in a source game. People see it, report it, the person gets kicked, and the problem is solved. Actually, it's SAFER than that, even.
Damn, didnt realize my idea was already took by a great mind. Well I support still Can't. Wait. For. Snazzay. Shizzles. And. Paintings.
Starbound is kinda pixel art. I think it would be really strange (and kind of ugly) if I was walking through 8-bit land and suddenly some high-definition imagery hit my retinas. Also, if the images supported transparent pixels, then we could have statues and custom decor! There could also be separate items for those things, if so desired.
I like the idea of custom artwork you can make in game. You could use it for more then just art. It allows more customisation. I really like the idea of being able to import some images for said art. I would give servers the option though to turn this feature on or off or even force the use stock art approved by the server.
You got my support. Some things I'm wondering/would like to add: - It must have an option to turn it on or off. - I would prefer it to have the option of letting the server hoster choose whether or not to allow uploading pictures. - I prefer pixel art, but I can live with either. I do feel normal art would somewhat ruin the setting though, as everything else is pixelated. - Paintings having '- made by x' in the item name to be able to easily identify who made offensive content.
I completely support this idea, it sounds amazingly fun for customization and personalization of houses!
Ok once again gonna say this. Under this provision you may as well remove block based building, and movement, and the ability to talk to other players, and the ability to customize anything at all, and the ability to pick your own name. You're basically saying "It could be used offensively so it shouldn't be there", which applies to just about half the features that define a sandbox game.
