Not much to explain, just a custom music player. You craft it, place it, and upload music from a prompt that pops up be activating it or something. You can disguise it as any block, and can set the volume that it plays the music.
MUUUUSSSIC.... i like music so yes. would it only play ingame music (the most likely) or put in your own (mp3, youtube)
Now that I think about it, it could play either music the server host uploads or you can put in a Youtube link. And game music, of course.

See this would be cool, and is wanted in games like Little Big Planet and stuff, but it would never be allowed. If you wanted to do this you would need to get rights to every single song or piece imaginable, in order to avoid copyright issues. The only way it could work is if you had to place the notes yourself, making the actual song. Otherwise, importing is not allowed.
An agreement would probably not be needed, as Google already has an API for things like this available for public use.
That's what I thought. You could make it look like a futuristic jukebox, or disguise it as any other block. As long as you have that block available.
I played this one game on Garry's Mod where you took a trippy elevator ride up to the top of a building. At the top there was this living room where everyone sort of chilled out, and you could walk up to the TV and play any video you wanted off of youtube. I would LOVE something like that in Starbound.
Man, this is the kind of stuff I'd love to do. I'd love to blast some metal in my space station. However, as Alternal suggested, this could cause a bit of an issue. But... is it any different then being at a party with a bunch of friends with music blaring?
That depends upon how many stereos you can fit in your Starbound home. Any chance they could program it so that glass blocks start breaking when you have too much sound?
That would be HYSTERICAL! You turned up the music too loud, and all your windows shatter! But that could be a potential troll problem...
That would be... interesting. If legal problems become an issue, I could always end up just making it as a mod.
Well If you imported your own music, it shouldn't bring starbound into any legal trouble. Just the guy who thought he could be funny and placed it. I hope servers can block these however, and set a MAX-volume for them. Meaning they cannot be louder than a specific decibel. Although its okay to play starbound in a window and play your own music, nobody else would hear it.
well its more for public sharing of music, as such it should also accept files from your computer if the server has that set up. oh and idea to go with it. A "boombox" a shoulder mounted radio that takes up a hand slot, and visually appears on the players shoulder.
The whole backstory behind this is so that I could play a certain song in certain buildings. If this doesn't get added, I could just make it a mod. Anyone know what language mods would need to be in?
