it's a bid of both. somethings i just kinda learned when trucking along drawing, but i also learned a lot from a drawing teacher i had the basics really, like how to observe the world, drawing perspective, etc. Somethings i learned from friends others by just looking at other artists and also the internet and some good artbooks really helped a lot. just kinda sponge all the information i can get and try to make it my own. Your never really done learning tough. still loads of shit i need to brush up on and want to learn. luckly there is always someone better to learn from. well you could always buy some tutorial dvd's from massive black or Gnomon Workshop. They run you about 60$ a piece. There is also alot of good free tutorials online these days. Just have to search a little. prices for education in for example america are off the chain, i tell most my American friends that if they do want to do an art school, they might be better of to just self educate themselves for 2 years using tutorials and forums where people that give good constructive criticism. The only problem with it is that you will need to find all your motivation yourself and there is nothing there to kick you in your butt if you don't do the work, but it is a lot cheaper then having 120k in dept
Well, you're preaching to the choir here. All in all, my rather expensive education amounted for nothing more than a very expensive piece of paper saying I graduated. Considered masters but for an additional 30k a year? Forget about it. edit: Summarised
I borrowed the Gnomon DVDs a while back (the Gnomon Studios are a few blocks from me too), they were really useful for beginning sculptors, but most of the stuff I already knew, and could find easily for free online. Most tutorials boil down to: -Learn anatomy, it'll help you with almost any organic sculpt -Make armatures with removable parts if necessary -Use a rake and loop -Be awesome rofl The "Be awesome" part is what I have trouble with, and I don't think you can teach that, it's something you have to have already. FFFFFFFFFFFFF lol Anyway, what was this topic about? Oh right, awesome artz! Those Glitch have iron balls to put their brains on display like that lol
hahah i am kinda the same. i got a degree in animation, but i never really animated at all. Well it doesn't really matter if it's sculpting or drawing. A lot of the same basic knowledge is needed for both. I myself still need to dive into sculpting in a program like mudbox or zbrush. Cheers guys. glad you like it. On a general note. Best wishes for the new year everyone. Around new years i always have a ton of shit to do so didn't really have time to work on any fanart. I did make some progress on my first avian paint now the partying is over
a lot of beautiful stuff right here. surprised artists like these don't get approached by chucklefish for some cool projects.
well it happens sometimes, but a lot of the time companies search for specific artist that have the exact style they find fitting for their game and so far the official art i seen for starbound is a lot more cartoony, simple and colorful. So thats probably the style they want to identify themselves with
Finnished my avian yayyyyy. Edit: also does anyone know how i can tag my thread with one of those digital icons ??
Your art is really good. I love the detail! You could maybe do a glitch princess perhaps I don't think I've seen any art like that yet.
The more i see the more i like your art... man you make me go spechless with all your things... For the thread title you can change it in the thread tools here
ah much thanks. and glad you like my stuff urgh final wipe please come already. I wanna start over with all my buddies. Me and some friends are thinking of making observational journals of our new adventures together as a group. Should produce some good art . not sure if i am gonna those do traditionally or digitally and fake the traditional feel xD
Nothing on the internet amazes me more than awesome fan-art from the game I love. Keep up the good work, man! I would be really interested in your "observational journals" from Starbound Are all of your buddies drawing? Seems like a powerful space travelling group of artists! I think you forgot to mention this piece of art in the 1st post: >REQUEST ART HERE<
ow snap i did thanks. its edited now . as for my friend the group i am playing right now is mostly writers that do a lot of RP and stuff. So i am afraid ill be responsible for doing most of the art. Still trying to get some of my artist buddies to play. but they are resisting !
Awesome, I do some RP myself. You could create some internet 'journal' of your adventures - them writing stuff and you doing illustrations.
All of this stuff (especially the avian) looks amazing! You are one of the best fan art creators out there; hell, I'd pay for some of these pieces.
Yah ill probably get some writing help from them. Because i traded in writing for doing art. even my handwriting is a mess xD I made a apex for my new adventures. He will be the first ape to take the universe by storm with his amazing high quality banana's. Im working on my first entry as we speak, i started making this portrait of him. Kinda wanted to get that Old masters feel to it, but unfortunatly i ain't no Rembrant xD it's still a WIP but here it is so far and here where the sketch studies i did before making the paint cheers glad you like it and it seems more people would like to pay for these types of drawings, so i might just open up some IRL commissions pretty soon. Ill let you know when i do
Love the hyper realistic art form, cant say many people draw/create art this way. Its more anime themed or sprites. In the end I love all art forms though. would almost die to see my character Crowleth designed this way. She be a human rocking Floran Tier 10 armor!
yay same here. i enjoy tons of art form, but for me personally when i start drawing i always end up trying to figure out what things would look like IRL xD
