Crops don't grow?

Yes from my understanding You need to be the actually planet but I can confirm that if you are on a different planet your crops should grow on your other planet, I have planted seeds on one planet left went to another planet for a few hours and when I returned the crops were fully mature.

Crops should record the host-side time they're planted then compare with the host's session time when a player enters the planet when it's empty.

OP didn't leave the planet however...

Plants should really grow based on a timer. It's kind of frustrating to have a farm site / baseop, go exploring the galaxy and find out that the planet has been kept in stasis.

This sounds easier to pull off in theory than in practice however.

I posted a suggestion to this end in the appropriate forum recently though it got buried quickly. The current system discourages you from leaving the planet your farm is on which is ironic in a game about exploration.

As someone said, simply recording a timestamp of when the area was last visitted, and then updating the crops to reflect the time that elapsed would solve this. (Indeed that was exactly my solution to the same problem in a mod i made for a different game way back)

I seem to be getting a lot more seeds than anything else with wheat... but i am not getting anymore banana seeds at all

    Multi-player (?) issue:
I have made a test series of plants which involved 6 different plant types from wheat and carrot to grape. Jungle type planet (should be able to sustain plant life i guess lol)
created farm blocks on dirt, and then the entire thing went to hell.
After like 3 hours of playing both on and off planet, nothing grows. None of the 6 plants grew.
I have not tested this in single player mode yet, but plant growth is most positively bugged one way or another, completely crippling farming.

    Interesting.
    This.

Currently the world sim stops about 5-10 seconds after you beam off the planet (you can see in the log
    Info: Shutting down world alpha:93590:-48085185:8355002:5)

    After that plants stop growing.

Here's hoping that the final growing mechanic is a little more sophisticated.

To add more data, I planted some genetically modified corn (2 minutes per stage) and went a wandering over the other side of the world. Came back after 3 minutes and the corn still grew on schedule at 4 minutes. One by one :)

Carrot seeds take incredibly long to grow compared to wheat, It's pretty odd.

46-50 minutes. Not very nice of them to us bunny people~

This doesn't seem to *always* happen on multi. I've had at least corn growing successfully in multiplayer. That doesn't mean there aren't conditions where it doesn't.

Also I've just tested going to a nearby planet with some corn planted and it hadn't grown at all when I returned 5 minutes later. Once I returned, plants grew as normal. I'd say that plants are definitely not growing when you're on a different planet.

That much has been confirmed for ages. The game completely unloads worlds that aren't active anymore to conserve resources.

Except that an earlier post on this thread confirmed that they *do* but after testing it, it would appear not to be true. Which is why I tested it in the first place. I fully expected it to be so, but I tested it anyway. For science!

if you plant crops on your spaceship they grow, even when you're on a planet.
