Critical oversight: possible to lose any method of reliably gaining pixels.

So. If you're playing around and drop or throw your sword on accident before you really know the keys and are just wandering around like I did, you can make it nearly impossible to progress past stone tools right at the beginning. I lost my sword somehow before I really made anything, don't know where it is. Only weapon is the bow which as far as I can tell causes only meat and leather to drop. I have no way of gaining pixels. It's really frustrating. Pixels are required in order to make any new melee weapons. Am I missing something? Is there a way to get a weapon or earn pixels I don't know about? It will literally take like twenty hours of wandering aimlessly and digging to come across enough pixels in the world in the shallow caves I find to make a new weapon/. I'm completely stymied.

If you go exploring, you can sometimes find chests with weapons in them

    If you're lucky

Well, I suppose you could charge around hoping to find a chest or village, but that does sound inconvenient.

Yeah I suppose its best just to start over. I spent about an hour between throwing my sword in the bushes somewhere and noticing that I had dropped the sword building a pretty little house on a hill and I didn't want to start over. Sounds like thats the only real way though.

AXES AND PICKS SHOULD DO -SOME- DAMAGE. It's really silly that your dude refuses to swing an axe at any non-tree entity. I just imagine him in a snearing british accent scolding me for not using the proper utensil while being hounded by monsters, dying and being reconstructed at the molecular level every half hour.

"You lowly barbarian! Even a child knows that axes are for chopping trees and swords are for chopping monsters. I WON'T wear black boots with a brown belt, I WON'T drink cold tea, I spell grey with an E like God intended, and I will NOT CHOP MONSTERS WITH AN AXE, you heathen."

Frankly, one should be able to fight while barehanded for minimal damage. It'd be much better to use a weapon, of course, but in cases like this, barehanded combat is better than nothing.

But they contain very small amounts of pixels as far as I have found, like 5-10 and they take a lot of time to find, at least to find enough.

the incoming patch will have lower pixel cost on the first tier equipment event some whit no more cost at all

While that's a frustrating oversight, the even bigger mistake is making items expire. It's retarded, I feel that loose items should only disappear if you jump to another planet, or never.

I had this so I pit my stuff in chests a rolled a new char.

Indeed, I also think the timer is a bit low. I can understand trying not to overload the system, but there should be some sort of forgiveness for accidentally throwing things. I did it for the first time today -- while I didn't lose anything important, I never even guessed I pressed Q. If for whatever reason the expiration period can't be increased, at least make a sound effect for thrown items. In the case of your starter weapon, I like the idea of fists or maybe more simple weapons. If I can launch dirt blocks, have 'em do 5 damage each!

I think a bigger problem would be going to a much higher level world with only starter gear and minimal fuel. Effectively getting stuck there, and dieing over and over until you manage to grind out enough wood to get somewhere.

Or even worse, doing the same thing as above, except going to a planet that's high level AND freezing cold. I don't think you could even get yourself out of that one, you'd just have to delete and reroll if there wasn't a better choice that didn't require a jump.

There's probably dozens of ways to screw yourself over royally in Starbound, really.

Think I'm going to roll this in to a new thread compiling a list of frustrating things or ways to 'lose.'

How do you claim old items on a new character? Just put them in a regular chest?
