All acceptable solutions. Far as a defense, while I'm all for force fields, I also want an option for something a little...noticeable, I guess you can say. Basically, if I'm building a city and such on a more primitive planet, I want to be able to include things that fit with the theme (desert, temple, old western, medieval, etc), so I don't want to be forced to use something too technologically advanced. Perhaps there could be a "magic item" variation that can protect from metorites as well. The plant people could build an idol or totem, etc?

I'd even settle for ship upgrades to the nav system that would get more specific as you upgraded as far as planetary detail went. I do love the meteor showers and the danger involved, so even having certain planets too shrouded in gas or fog remain "unkown" as far as details went. At least you know then NOT to start building there, and you get to experiences awesome dangerous stuff there.

The only reason this happened is because your name is Yiffyraptor.

How does having a force field that stops meteorites make more sense than having a cannon that destroys them beforet hey reach the planet? Just a matter of preference in my book.
They could add some sort of "Planetary Defense Systems" crafting table, with multiple options like a satellite system control station, force field, cannons, missile systems...

The above could also serve as a defense from orbital bombardment and off-planet mining shenanigans, if/when they eventually get added to the game.

I actually like the idea of a "PDS" crafting station. Could even add in other weather changes that could be done with it, send out drones to explore and map the planet surface, etc.

Force fields make more sense because you don't waste bullets, and yet they don't make more sense because you waste energy running the thing 24/7.

It's just a matter of preference, I'd want to protect my planets with force fields. Other people want turrets. We can have both!

Anyways, the "Planetary Defense Systems" crafting table sounds like a great idea.

I dunno, I just thought this image was fitting and appropriate in context.

this is a great approach as far as i am concerned it makes the whole process a little unpredictable and much more interesting than "ooh lets bring in a platinum drill and see if that works before we do anything else"

i do believe ALL planets should be able to get hit by meteors BUT on a sliding scale of probability and (dependant on atmosphere) level of severity also location of meteor strikes should be random on a planet after all we on earth regulary have meteor showers and strike but they are usually small burning up on entry or in areas uninhabited.

some way of helping to protect yourself from meteor strikes would also be good say a high level tech item like shield or a turret that could reduce to damage recieved down or eliminate it totally while at lower level building your base underground.

    just my tuppence worth there

Personally I'm hoping later on that all planets have a chance(though perhaps varying in chance between planets) of a meteor storm occurring on them. BUT! I would like to see some sort of craft-able item that would detect incoming meteor storms, and give you time to prep, or maybe even as a prompt to beam up to your ship to attempt to fight off the incoming meteor as part of the future ship-combat feature.

This all sounds fun and amazing...but here's the thing, you can't ask people who mainly play the game for the building aspects to have to rebuild. This is especially true for multiplay server who actually have world builders and level creators building amazingly detailed things. In those cases "prepping" for a meteor strike just won't work. I'm all for destruction and mayhem of all sorts, as long as there are some options in place (either server side, or through game mechanics) to NOT have the game-world buildings destroyed.

Single player, is a little difference. But I'm sure they will have server commands that flat out get rid of meteor strikes or set specific block areas as non-destructible.

Thank you for taking the time to respond! I'm glad to hear that you guys are examining options and such for this sort of thing.

I think it'd be pretty neat to get a growing shadow for the larger meteorites if at all possible

what i'd like to see would be an upgrade to your ship that provided you with weather intel for planets! because honestly, i WANT to see some of the odder weather patterns. but i don't want to settle on a meteor-prone world, haha.

What makes you think that there won't be a warning.... later, when development progess?

Like a meteo station, or planet weather scanner(or god know what else).

I'm not saying there will be. But the devs added a new feature, a new system altogether that wasn't there before. But one can only develop, and add, so much content all at once.

You can't judge sometime, writing it as "unnacceptable" as if the finished version of the game would be the incomplete version you're playing right now and make judgment on it without knowing what -else- would be added later.

A more respectful way of going at things might have simply been "Hey devs, X happened to me today and really took me back. I wanted to know, will there be a mean later in development for players to scan a planet beforehand to know it's weather pattern, or a meteo station one could build to be warned when wweather shifts happen on that planet? I think those might be very useful tools for players."

    Anyway, just one example.

Actually, I like the idea of specialized blast pannels. Maybe you could add this to suggestions thread on the suggestions forums?

I think showing falling meteors / acid raid in the background layers for 1 minute prior to catastrophic weather would go leaps and bounds into both fixing the issue of no warning as well as increasing immersion. It'd be just like when you are driving to work and see dark clouds in the distance and brace yourself for terrible drivers.

I feel like this should be added whether they flesh out planet scanning or not. :)
