One question, if we just wanted to build, would there be a building mode where you can spawn stuff, bt only available in singleplayer? The blocks in this game look awesome.
I dont know if there is at this time, i dont see why there shouldnt be, as long as that character was a "creative" only and couldn't move to "action" mode. would be helpful to learn how to build, move, test out items etc. once (if) modding is added a "creative" mode would make for a good test arena, does my monster take damage how i want, weapon explode how it should. another idea might be to have a "spoiler free creative" mode where you could only use blocks/items/mobs that you have seen, could be a holodeck type thing. that way you didnt get to play with end game guns and lvl100 mobs untill you have seen them.
Well, in the post about similarities to Terraria it says that there will be building and exploring so i think there will be building in this game
Actually, I think something like that might already be in the game, as the devs said that they are going to have a mission editor, which might involve the ability to minipulate/spawn blocks. However, they said it may be released as a later update if it drags down the launch date.
He was asking for a "mode" that is made for building. Not whether there is building or not. A building mode could be intresting, but if SB used a world sharing thing, there will be some problems.
There are no plans for a "creative mode" for Starbound that I am aware of. Since this is an adventure game, not a building game, there would be no purpose for that. If there are game "modes", it would be FAR more likely that it would be "easy, normal, hardcore" etc. While one CAN build in Starbound, that's not the primary focus here as it was in Minecraft.
I am sure that if there isnt... people will have mods / singleplayer hacks to disable monsters or give yourself infini blocks. *shrug*. If thats your thing go for it xD I find it entertaining how programming a map system like terrarias or minecrafts can turn any game, no matter what it is, into a building game. (See Ace of Spades i think its called for an FPS one)
Hmm..to be honest we can't even be sure if this is possible. Depends how much of the game will have procedural generation. If there are tousands of differend "dirt" kinds that vary in their look than you'd have a build mode with billions and billions of different colored blocks for many different materials. Would make the usage of some sort of inventory system for all kind of blocks rather deadly. And this only counts for standard blocks.
Maybe, in-game, you coud find some kind of blank-white planet which would have one object: a mysterious chest. In it, every single block/object in StarBound... But when you leave the surface, the item disappears... This could be some kind of "Creative-Mode" planet. Although, this sounds better.
StarBound is a very visual game, and there should be a creative. Servers, multiplayer worlds, etc. would need to be built up, and i don't want to do that by hand. If the Admin for a server could enable/disable creative only on the server, it would probbably work. As far as single player creative sharing goes, I would think that you could make up some co-ords/have one randomly generated, that you could share with friends in-game, and they could enter it into the computer, and warp to your world. Adventure maps, hubs, etc. could be made and shared.
