Does anyone know how to adjust player size ... I am looking to make a 7'5" race (about 2 blocks {ingame size} taller than the default humanoid. If anyone has any suggestions or knowledge in this it would be greatly appreciated
The sprite has to be in a 48 by 48 pixel frame. In order to increase it 2 block size you would need the character to be 16 pixels larger then what the character currently is. As far as I know there is nothing which defines the size of the frame used in the sprite sheet of the character. But I would imagine it wouldn't be a small edit - since all the sprite animations are all common.
yep it would be rebuilding the player from the ground up ... I knew going in it would be difficult and challenging.. since all armor would have to be made ... weapons would work ok I think as they are already oversized for the players. but getting the framework and animations down is the tricky part for me. Any idea where I should go to look at building this?
No.... Every new race your essentially building from the ground up - that really isn't the issue. Right now the character has only about room for 1 more block [12 pixels] You couldn't add 2 blocks [16 pixels] without editing some file which changes how big the sprite frame is. And since all races would use a common frame sheet - that would mean giving this one a unique sprite sheet with a different set of rules. No where have i seen that is possible. In other words you could at max get 1 block extra height. Then there is an issue of armor and clothing incompatability. They would not be able to wear anything of any race. Even generic. But its totally up to you, making a sprite sheet is simple. Some made a tutorial for a monster sprite sheet just follow that
With the race I have in Mind .... they are not going to want to wear generic armor or racial armor. big hush hush on that for the moment ... no spoilin!!!!
That isn't what I really meant. You also have consider it from the players perspective is what I feel your forgetting. They would only be allowed to wear custom armor you make. They would not get access to any armor made by anyone else - nor any of the vanity items in the game - or any armor. Which essentially means nearly 30 different armors and 20 vanity items in the game they no longer have access too. As well as the insurmountable items made by mod developers. I just hope you took that into consideration.
I did .. in fact I was worried about the lack of diversity ... but ... the race is already established in a canon I could not alter. This mod is probably gonna take me the better part of 2-4 months to complete on my own with the painting and coding. The race that I have in mind rarely changes it's armor types. Coloring the armor is what is going to be most untilized. the race itself will be a vanity Item for those that love it. and yes I know it is gonna be monotonous and thorough but very rewarding. I also have to figure out how to program the UI to allow for techs to be locked in and give a passive benefit(i.e. you don't have to tap a key to keep them active). So yeah, people may not like it but those that already follow that canon are gonna be happy I think.
There is a mistake I made which I just want to point out. I said the frames couldn't be increased. The frame file for the characters are actually here - [with a frame size indicator] Code: C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\Starbound\Assetunpacked\humanoid Though I really don't know what would happen or how you would have to reposition all the sprites to make it work. It would still cause a lot of incompatibility most likely. But just wanted to correct my mistake.
all new armor and all new weapons will be crafted and used for this race. 2 sets of armor per tier. melee weapons will be ..lighter. ranged weapons should be more plentiful. I will be redesigning and repainting the glitch castle door to accommodate the mod and it's ship door, as well as a new ship as the general design of the basic ships will be inadequate for size reasons.. its gonna be an undertaking... getting those frames and animations to line up are gonna be tricky, but fun!
You necroed a four month-dead thread to ask if someone who has likely moved on long ago if they could make a race mod based off of Yoshi from Mario? Seriously? The least you could have done is make a thread in the Suggestions section... even then, just "create Yoshi as Starbound species" says nothing about the other things necessary to make a Starbound race, like backstory and culture. Not to mention how many armors and weapons would have to be made to fit with the non-humanoid Yoshi body... Don't necro dead threads.
with a little passion that's doable, whoever wants to spend some big chunk of their time they can make a race which cannot wear the default sized stuff but add a whole lot of stuff for them to wear. i second that!
the thing im concerned with is, how do i get to the part where i get the humanoid, apex, hylotl, floran, novakid, and aivian character creation data so i can choose for instance humanoid and make a design pretty much overlapping the humanoid character looks then i can add other things like shipworld data and actions and pet ovelapping stuuf?
