Crawling

Hello,

Just wanted to voice a suggestion that came to mind after playing some Terraria adventure maps. Some underground terrain can be needlessly difficult to traverse due to the 3 block height of your character. If the ability to crawl (crouch + movement keys) were to be added, reducing the character height to 2 blocks, some interesting gameplay could ensue. Coupling that with slightly decreased movement speed and only being able to use one hand (example: holding a flashlight in front of you, firing a pistol ahead of you), I think it could work well with other user's suggestions such as:

Kohjix' crouching for accuracy.
Or Ethric's sneaking for stealth.

What do you think? =)

 

How about like fully laid down on the floor,so you can crawl through tight 1 block high spaces,like the idea

 

Hey, thanks for replying. ^^ I thought about that, but seeing some of the costumes being developed, I thought that your character might look squashed in such a tight space, and then for sure you wouldn't be able to hold anything, so then you might not be able to see ahead of you if you're deep underground.

 

Crouching is confirmed. Dunno about moving while crouched though

 

The Terraria character was 2 blocks wide. Assuming dimensions are similar, so will the Starbound character. In fact, Starbound might have a BIGGER character model, making fitting through such a small gap impossible.

 

Then how about a miniature robot crab thing that you can control and it can collect stuff for you but it runs on batteries

 

it sounds like a pretty sweet idea but i think that you should have to have a certain item that alows you to do it.

 

That actually sounds more than feasible. I like that idea. Basically a little RC gizmo. Probably be squishy as all and not able to carry much, but come on- it's to get at tricky stuff.
Though if you can destroy terrain, that might prove more work than just putting a few seconds into breaking a wall...

 

Crawling to me would only come in handy for dodging attacks.

 

True, but I sometimes wish I could just lay down and crawl in a location that seems dangerous, rifle aimed frontward at all times. That said, I'm hoping equipped weapons will stay out... which, if the art can be trusted, they will.
