-- The behavior that you saw (that you think is an issue, be specific).
Right after the Chuckling Fish, an error message appears, then the game crashes. I'm on Windows 7 32-Bit.

-- Steps you've taken so far to attempt to fix the issue.
I've completely deleted the game and I'm on a fresh install. Deleting the mods folder doesn't help, nor does deleting the unstable storage folder. OpenGL and normal both crash, albeit with slightly different errors.

I also tried installing a fresh build of the stable at one point, and that runs fine. But if I completely delete that and install the unstable, it's crash city.

    -- starbound.log
Well, I've seen some slightly variation depending on how I launch the client, which executable I launch, whether the starbound.config is already present before I launch - but this log right here is the one that I get if I delete the "storage_unstable" folder complete and then launch the non-OpenGL Starbound.

-- Screenshots of any error messages.
It spits out about 5 or 6 dialog boxes, but they just say the stuff in the log, "Access violation detected at 0", "stack trace trampoline", other than one which just gives the usual "This application has requested the Runtime to terminate it in an unusual way. Please contact the application's support team for more information."

-- Version you're running, visible in your log or in the corner of the main game menu screen (Ex: "Version 643 Enraged Koala").
Can't get to this 'cause it won't launch, but it's the newest unstable.[DOUBLEPOST=1422325681][/DOUBLEPOST]SBDiag:

Man, that crash doesn't even write out the stacktrace... is that starbound.log from after you clicked through all the error dialogs, or did you grab it before?
If you hadn't clicked through everything, run it again and click through all the dialogs, let Starbound close completely before attaching the log.

If you DID click through everything... not sure... if you've already deleted everything and started fresh, you might try running Sysinternals Process Monitor, set a rule to track Process Name starbound.exe, and see if anything jumps out at you (probably an Access Denied when trying to read a file).

Otherwise, maybe someone will come along with a more specific fix.

As was mentioned, your starbound.log doesn't really have much info. You said that it also crashes on OpenGL but with a slightly different error, could you post that log as well? It may shed more light on the issue.
(+10 likes for actually reading and following the stickied thread instructions first. :) )

    Not a problem:
There's some variation, but I think if I run the normal exe first, and let it generate the unstablestorage folder, then this crash will happen:

With this log. SO! My posts were merged. To make it clear. "starbound - Copy.txt" is the log for this error. The other .txt file is the log for the second error.

Here's another variation. I think this one is similar to what I just posted, only the unstablestorage folder was originally generated by running the openGL exe.

And here's the log. By the way, sorry all the logs were changed to .txt files, the forum wouldn't let me upload them as .log files. (hah)

Again, the log for this error is starbound.txt.

I talked at length with Tiy about this. Eventually he suggested I was having a problem with my PC's memory, so I shut down Chrome. Oddly enough, even though it didn't cause a problem for the Stable, doing this allowed the Unstable to run.

I guess I'll be testing my memory and probably buying some new sticks.

You're sure there are no mod files, no players, no universe?

Also, your issue is completely different from OPs, which is why you should always start your own thread.

Similar problem here on XP SP3. Crashes after the Chucklefish logo. I had no problem with the unstable until I patched today. Same errors for normal run, opengl and server.

Acces violation on 0 -> stack trace -> runtime error

At first I tried verifying the game cache, then I uninstalled and reinstalled only the stable version, it ran just fine. Then added the unstable: same error. Uninstalled again, installed the unstable, same error. Tried again with a reboot, but nothing changed. Using one core from my two also didn't help.
Vanilla, never modded one week old installation worked fine until now.

    :sadkoala:

    EDIT:

Seems like a memory issue here as well. I turned off the steam overlay, and the miracle happened: works like a charm. :_D

Read that thread and follow the instructions (if you had, you wouldn't be getting that error as it's a common problem that's fixed by following those steps). Don't skip any steps, follow them one by one and see if Starbound launches after each one. That thread will give you further instructions if those steps don't correct your issue.

Glad you got it working :)

Closed as OP reported that their issue was resolved.
