OK I've been playing some co-op with my brother and hosting just fine for quite awhile but today the game crashed while we were playing and wouldn't load after that. When I would try to launch it would do the runtime error something unusual way thing I've seen posted a few times.

Anyway I figured due to the crash it had messed up the Universe file. I deleted the Universe files, launched it up and singleplayer was perfect.

Launched the server again and crash. Launched singleplayer and same issue, the crash again.

I've deleted the universe a few times and it's the same thing over and over. Singleplayer will generate a new universe and work fine, but if I try to run the server... it all crashes until I delete the universe again. I've even deleted the config file for the server and it generated a fresh new one of those too. I also validated steam cache with nothing found wrong there.

    Any ideas?

UPDATE: I FULLY uninstalled the game. Redownloaded everything and it still does the same thing. It worked fine until today.

Please post starbound.log for the community to help with your problem. A screenshot of the error wouldn't hurt either.

First thing, make sure antivirus and firewall both allow starbound through.

Second, when uninstalling did you remove world and player folders, then reinstall? These folders can be copied elsewhere for safe keeping. But I would try to launch without those folders in the starbound folder.

Yes, like I said I've been playing since the start without issue and today is the first time it's messed up
I copied the player and universe folder out to another hard drive for safe keeping, uninstalled through steam, then went in and deleted everything left in the folder.

This is a full fresh download, no old files were left behind.

This is why it's so confusing. The server program hung on me and in game I couldn't mine and then the server full crashed with the unusual way error. I figured it was simply a corrupted universe but now I'm using a newly generated universe, character, the works but it's still messed up.

Any newly installed programs between last play period and today? If so, ensure those are not running, even in the background, and give it another shot.

nope. Only weird thing was the crash. Had been playing fine for awhile prior to the crash. Only thing that I've actually installed in the last few days was a DLC for another game which I never even started up.

Just to be sure, you don't have single player running already, when trying to launch the server?

Also, try launching the server from the .exe in the install location, rather than the launcher, which based on your error log, should be in her somewhere
    G:\SteamLibrary\steamapps\common\Starbound.

If that still doesn't work, open your task manager (I'm assuming Windows is being used here) and make sure there are no other Starbound processes running.

This line in starbound.log means something is already locking the universe folder(Possibly that crashed process didn't clean up after itself very well):

    Code:
Error: StarException: Could not acquire lock for the universe directory
