I regret adding in that blueprint bit because it's more-so suppose to be an addition to it rather than a requirement, Pretty much put it, in this ideal you'd still get new recipes from unlocking new tiers It's just that in this system, you can get another race's weapon from fighting their dungeons or simply buying it from their merchants like you normally would. I do agree on what you pointed out about loot VS crafting though, in that they should be hybriding with eachother over having loot being superior or crafting not requiring loot.
I once let birds do my job for me and they plastered some avians in an airship, one dropped a real nice sword with 120 damage a hit in Beta sector. 'course, I died by trying to genocide the entire airship and getting one-shot by some bird with a more powerful sword... As for crafted vs drops, I agree that miniboss drops are crap compared to craftables. Maybe minibosses need to be buffed up forcing some real tactics, but they drop better gear to compensate (alpha sector dropping beta or even very rarely gamma gear, for instance)
Ah yes, I remember now. This is where I got my aforementioned sword too. Dang those pirates are OP. I've died in Impervium to a group of threat 7 Airship Pirates. When I was trying to be sneaky by moving blocks around to get my gear back without being noticed, it despawned. Seems like items have a despawn timer that probably is around 5 minutes long. (while the chunk is loaded)
I think maybe some way to improve found weapons might be worth thinking about. Not insanely so, just buffing them a little so it's worth dropping materials and time into dungeoneering to get a decent weapon and then buff it with materials on your ship/at a forge. That way people could find a weapon they like and improve it to make it as good or better than craftable ones. You could even add the requirement to find blueprints that allow the upgrading of certain weapon-types.
What they should probably do is give crafted items a range of DPS that is randomly selected when a crafted item is made. Then also add the customization that dungeon weapons might have less of.
