Crafting isn't Upgrading

Crafting an item should not require the previous tier. For some things like the anvil in the metal-working station it makes sense. But why do I need copper armor to make my iron armor? Or a gold pick for a steel pick?

    Where suggestion? Where logic?

The suggestion is that previous tiers should not be mandatory. I.E, if the player has Platinum, they should not need gold to make it.

Agreed! That's really strange to have some layered tools and armors. Maybe developers wanted to make more difficulties for gamers, but this feature just make crafting more linear and not too variable.

One of the things I LOVED about Terraria is that you could skip tiers instead of getting every single thing. I support this!

I agree with this to an extent, though mostly because the first part of the armour is made with super rare metals (gold and platinum) so it becomes hard to turn the materials you'll have most of into armour (steel and titanium). If it was titanium armour into platinum armour it would be a lot smoother progression-wise.

you guys do need to know that your doing this because your pickaxe will never go away compare to other games where you will lose your pickaxe and there no real way to repair it. following is an example with a example amount
lets look at it this way in Terraria you need to build a pickaxe (cost 15 ore and 5 wood) but when that thing died out you need to build another. so what you did is spand 30 ore and 10 wood (short run cost less/long run your mining too much for another pickaxe)
compare to starbound where you just need to build that one pickaxe and when its low you feed it raw ore of any kind to fix it up again. so your spanding 30 ore and 5 wood + 5 ore for fixing (short run alot/long run gets really cheap)

Yes, but once you lose that high level pickaxe, as rare as it is, you have to rebuild it, and should you not have a certain tier, you have to go mining and redo all of the earlier stages

the question is why or how will you lose that item of high value and highly used in game at all time?

Isn't the repair items with any type of ore a bug?

In terms of the original thread. I don't believe you should be upgrading, It makes no sense whatsoever that you need a copper item to make another item and so on.

Mining it to break (It happens)
Accidentally dropping it and being unable to retrieve it before it despawns
Losing it in a variety of chests (Having large scale storage facilities does this)

Aren't they going to add some kind of item loss / semi hardcore mode?

Not being allowed to skip tiers is no fun.
