So, in another post (which I'll link below), I described a weapon type that I came up with. A weapon that shoots things as you strike with a sword. Horrible range though. http://community.playstarbound.com/index.php?threads/gunblade.8866/#post-220156 So, as I was reading the comments, I got another idea. Most people were mistaking my intentions for the weapon and assumed I meant you could use this weapon at range. That, of course, is also a good idea. So, here I want to demonstrate what I think crafting one of these things could be like. First, take any melee weapon you want. Then, grab a gun. The gun depends on personal preference. If you plan on shooting mostly, use a longer range weapon. Melee, use a shotgun. Say you use a sword and a shotgun. For the crafting, you obviously need the stuff to combine these weapons. But, what's the point of getting to do something like this early? In my opinion, I think this should be a crafting machine on your space station that scientists have to discover. Once they've discovered it, you can build it and craft with it. For the crafting, you will basically take the parts from the gun and implant them into the melee weapon. So, crafting may require melee weapon, ranged weapon, scrap, adhesives, gunpowder, tinkering tools, and other things based on the weapon combination. Tell me what you think.
This is actually pretty interesting, I came up with a GunSword/GunBlade earlier today http://community.playstarbound.com/...what-would-you-choose.9009/page-2#post-227694
Dude, Gunblades are epic! The ones in Dungeon Defenders were so cool, even if they couldn't shoot. I'd be all over gunblades... They would probably have to be two-handed though.
Given that, by my humble opinion, this kind of weapon is very, very silly - to avoid using stronger words - and utterly impractical, on the level of swords carved completely out of a single piece of sandstone, I will - given the possibility - mod it out anyway (yes, I know, science fiction and casual, funny game with aliens and so on - doesn't mean I won't try to make it somewhat more mature and ambitious if I'll be able to, even if just for myself and few of my acquaintances). Now, for the technical aspect of suggestion. While I am not a guy programming this game, I am quite sure such addition would take quite some effort and time to be implemented. You don't only have to alter random weaponry generator for every weapon where you can add a melee component (which thing may actually be quie easy), you also actually have to add alternative animations for swinging the whole weapon (if you don't want to settle for rather dull 'weapon moves a bit more forward to imitate stabbing') and actually alternate fire modes so player can differentiate between shooting and swinging his unwieldy contraption. By comparison, dual wielding is already said to be in, makes more sense and requires less tinkering with weapons themselves.
Well... For me gun + katana (or other sword) combination will be better than gunblade, yes, but think about fans of Final Fantasy VIII for a while
Katana, gunblade etc rant. Be warned. I am Final Fantasy fan - at least up to the installments of late 90s or if not a fan at least a person who has/played all FF up to 10th (also, Final Fantasy Tactics Advance 1 & 2 was quite decent; and to be fair I have to mention that 1 - 3 FFs I played remade for GBA). The newer installments are somewhat disappointing though. But I digress. I can enjoy the game and in fact FF8 was one I've played the longest I believe, but it doesn't mean that the weapon isn't ridiculous - I just exercise suspension of disbelief and concentrate on the rest of he game which I find better.
I don't mind it as long as there will be blue wigs in-game. And the best Final Fantasy games for me (all FF were good, but still...) are these for SNES console (IV, V, VI).
No, not a melee attachment, a melee weapon, such as a hammer, with a shotgun put into it. That way, if you would all PLEASE read the original post, when you swing the weapon, a shotgun round goes off, adding extra damage to the MELEE strike. There is NO RANGE.
Custom made on demand, with little of said demand as they were not superior to regular guns (or even subpar) and horribly impractical weapon for the demanded price. That's why they are not in common production and use nowadays. But we start to get off-topic.
If Right clicking (or another key) would make you swing the weapon, I'd approve. But I don't think the melee attachments will be better than the melee weapons themselves.
I gotta say, my grandpaw is a gunsmith and he has made some pretty cool guns kind of like that (most are illegal though). They still make them and they work fine
I guess it would work out if it was a two-handed gunsword and left click was slash and right was to shoot?
