I've heard that the weapons and the like will be randomly generated. Does this apply to crafted weapons, and if so, will it be completely random or simply small changes like the modifiers in Terraria?
Maybe random enchantments for crafted weapons? Like in borderlands.(I think they will be known as "upgrades" though)
Tiy said that each item will have different perks,like +5 range or some sh*t just to keep the variety...I may be wrong
Methinks any item in the game (equips anyways) will have procedurally generated stats. Regardless of the origin of the item.
From what we know already, this random generation (that we're calling "procedural generation") will probably add stats to world generated weapons, and for sure, will generate changes in their sprites, like, the same revolver can have a different looking barrel, different colors, etc. But i dunno about crafted ones... As stated somewhere, there's already 21000 different visual styles for a single weapon (the rocket launcher), but, personaly, i heard nothing "official" about different stats of the same weapon, and we dont even know if were going to be able to craft our own weapons... maybe we buy weapons from NPC's in urbanized planets, maybe we hire a NPC who makes weapons for us... Well, to be honest, no1 knows for sure
That is VERY true, Lobo. We don't know if we will be able to craft out own weapons. I think everyone assumes we will be able to because of other games, ie: Terraria. We will ave to wait and see!
Exactly! i sense that everyone is treating starbound as Terraria 2, wich is kinda true (and basically is what we all want), but it's not the same game, and even the simplest things may be tottaly different
Indeed. A Terraria 2 would be neat, but Starbound is not "Terraria 2" or even Terraria in Space. ( I have seen that one too many times in the IRC) Starbound will be a total game changer. Innovative, voxeley goodness! I cant wait!
Are we going to be using like ores and similar stuff to make weapons? or are we going to be using like other new materials
Well, we don't really know for sure but it has to balenced obviously and we can't make things out of thin air too. Maybe gear will have random or enchanted stats (Why I think that is cause they said they wanted it to be as unique as possible from terraria right?) and possibly have something like a modifying table to gain those random or enchanted stats. But anyways, there has to be crafting right? Unless if you can make things out of thin air or buy objects or gear form merchants, I don't see any other way to get gear. Maybe, you can kill monsters and get gear but you need a gear to kill first to get it right? (Gearception!)
Lucky for you, I have this: The devs stated that each item is randomely generated with different parts, and then colored. Then stats are added. So I think if you can craft weapons, you will do all the part-combining and coloring by yourself, so that you get exactly what you want.
They also mentioned a possibility of recolouring, if I'm correct. If you can craft weapons, then I would think they would implement something like, the quality of the items, or your skill as a crafter may affect it. One thing I hated about Terraria was making a rare item and having it randomly be "sluggish." I would think that they wouldn't implement the crafting stats as COMPLETELY random, but there should be a touch of spontaneity when it comes to benefits of a weapon. Or maybe add the possibility of "scrap" as a crafting slot in a blueprint which you fill with any set of ores to create stats based on the ores used for that slot. AKA if you use a strong metal, maybe add a defense, or a radioactive agent can cause radiation poisoning, etc, but only a small addition. The blueprint's base stats should be 95% of the weapon.
Well I hope it will be something like Diablo 3. So when you want to craft "Shotgun XYZ" it shows the base damge f.e: 20 ranged damage or 20-30 ranged damage (don't know how the damage thing will be like) and then you can see +4 random stats. Those stats are random but allways good for the thing you craft. So you wount find +melee damage on a gun f.e. Then based on your crafting skill and/or used materials and/or itemlevel of the crafted item the stats can be minor, medium or big, like +2 ranged, +10 ranged, +24 ranged. f.e: you want to craft the "Shotgun XYZ" it could be: Heavy Shotgun 20-30 ranged damage +15 ranged damage +3 clip size -20% reload speed +50% knockback or: Sawnoff Shotgun 20-30 ranged damage -25% range +50% spread -4 clip size +100% reload speed Then I hope you can change stats on those crafted or found items. So You could convert the +15 ranged damge of the Heavy Shotgun to +15% knockback so you have got 65% knockback. But you can only convert one stat at the time.
