    Hello friends!

I can't hide that Tiy's last dev blog post got me excited, i hope it did the same to you.
I know the SB's dev plan has been revealed for a while now, but it is defenitively getting to an end soon.
With only 3 major updates to release, considering that the combat update is pretty much almost done and that
the final engine is almost complete. So the goal of this thread: When do YOU think is Starbound's 1.0 relase date?

I am guessing around March 2016.

    Cheers!

Nothing like labeling your thread as being controversial to grab a moderator's attention.

Personally, I don't know or care. I've been waiting patiently this long, and I'll continue to.

Meh, I would say we have a year to go.

I would wager another 2-year delay is coming up since Tiy is discussing a release date.

On a more serious note I'd guess late summer/early fall next year, probably not until December though.

Unfortunately I can't share in the hype for this one, I've been here since the game first went on sale through their pre-order system here (before steam early-access), when we were promised the release "by the end of the year, no matter what", so when it comes to estimating times I'll be very careful and pessimistic. I'd rather be positively surprised than disappointed again.

I'd have to vote between today and tomorrow.

Trust me, if my calculations are correct, then this should be when 1.0 hits.

(Actual guess: Summer or Autumn 2016)

This and a small japanese indie game are the only early access games I've ever bought into. I've spoken on a personal level to the dev in the Japanese game (who is the only guy working on it in every aspect), but he went MIA last year around this time, causing that game to have hit a snag for a year. I'm wondering which game will be finished first; his game or Starbound.

That said, while I do hope both games get finished sooner than later, I expect Starbound to be release ready by June 2017. Not even trying to be funny here, but the content is coming out at a snail's pace. It's picked up from the what, two year wait we had when we got the delayed initial release, but it's still rather sluggish. Two more years at minimum isn't a long shot, especially since everything is being redone.

On a good note, I'm glad they changed the coding. Way back when, it was a horrible, disgusting mess. Now, it's easy to understand and work from. I still have no idea about LUA, but I learned JSON from this game and making mods. I never thought basic coding would be fun. Kind of a shame that's all the fun I've had with the game for a while, but still!

  7. I won't speculate on release dates, but I will say that it's nice to hear a bit more about the plan. After the combat patch we can expect to see more on the polish/balance/optimization side of things which is exciting.

On past release dates, they did what most indie companies do: Underestimate and oversimplify. They made some risky choices (mid-dev move to a unified office, rebuilding key systems, redefining goals, etc) and as it seems to me, they've seen positive results. People don't give them enough credit for what they've done. Looking at the first beta build compared to the latest, it's a very different game.

Even with their missed dates and flubbing of the timeline, they've clearly put a lot of time and effort into the game and even if it took a couple more years, I think they'd make a game worth playing.
