Hey guys I've got 2 questions!

    1) is Starbound compatible with xbox controllers?

    2) How do you connect a controller to steam?

Not officially. YOu can somehow get it to work with third party programs not that I can understand why you'd want to in the first place

You can use an Xbox 360 controller for PC if proper drives installed. In Steam, you can search games that are gamepad input compatible, they can either be full or partial controller input compatible.

Joytokey and ControlMK are both free (or they were) programs to button map keyboard controls to game pads. I use an Xbox 360 controller and prefer ControlMK on most non-controller interfaced games, (like Starbound or Terraria) and it works well.. Not sure about posting links to these, so Google it if yer' interested.

Oh post the links, dude. If it ain't kosher, the mods will fix it anyway. It's not like they have anything better to do.

  6. I don't see any issues posting links for those.

ControlMK and the almighty button map, that I made for it.(you'll appreciate this pic when you open the program) It does not support the D-pad.

Joytokey down load links at bottom. Only played around with JoyToKey a little. Worked OK on the Binding of Isaac, but not so well in other games, IMO.

Have you run in to many control problems? Like sensitivity and reaction time or anything? Honestly curious.
Hoping to see a program soon that makes use of the PS4 controller and allows use of the touch pad for mouse movements like building and inventory. I have a pal who is working on one but it's specialised for ARMA III (prob gonna need a mod too)

ControlMK: Overall, no problems. I like the ability to customize the controller to fit the game. The feel of it is very good, in both Starbound and Terraria. I remaped the WASD controls to the left stick & the mouse movement to the right stick. I did have to adjust the mouse movement speed down. (An in program feature, I'd try to target some critter & end up over aiming and off screen or onto another monitor.) Once in a while, and it's probably due to the age of the controller, I'll get a wandering mouse cursor to the right... easy fix, i just move it left & it stops. May have to steal er, borrow my wife's new controller to test that theory... yeah, test it... that's what I'll say...
Did have major directional 'sticking' issues in Isaac... could have been caused by the old (now broken) controller I was using at the time.

Be careful, the graph paper might turn off some of the proto-geeks.

Sorry for the double post, but just use a keyboard/mouse, you big baby.

Some games play better with mouse and keyboard... Others play better with a controller.. Some people are better with a mouse and keyboard.. Others are better using a controller.. For this kind of game, I prefer Mouse and Keyboard.. Fighting games are ideal for controllers.. RTS games are best with a Mouse and Keyboard.. Shooters can (arguably) be played well on both.. I say "arguably" due to personal preferences tend to vary in favor of one or the other.. It all depends on who you ask.. I can do fairly well with both, but perfom slightly better using controller due to spending many more hours playing console games than PC games..

Hey now, no reason to be like that.
Did controllers kill your parents? Did you don the mantle of the keyboard and mouse to strike fear in to the hearts and minds of criminal peripherals? Did your arch nemesis the D-Pad place you in a difficult situation where two people are strapped to bombs and you could only save one? Are you the hero the thread needs, not the one it wants?

Nice I've been wanting to use my controller for this game. Thank you for sharing.

Your welcome. Just trying to be helpful and add useful content. I prefer using controllers on most games, but that could just be me. Funny, but I use ControlMK & controller so often that I wouldn't have even mentioned it, if it wasn't for this thread/the OP's 1st question.

I was never able reconcile using a controller with a PC. For some strange reason I just can't do it; It just feels wrong.

And as a result I've missed out on one of my favorite genres, PC space combat sims. Games that I foolishly still occasionally buy, are arguably better with a controller and have never been comfortable playing with a mouse and keyboard, hoping that this time it'll be different. Titles going all the way back to Tie Fighter and Elite and Freelancer. Not that I even think I could get a controller to work with them.

    Don't even mention Star Citizen.

Sorry, even when I have something to add I derail.

Nice hard copy, hand made graphic, Z.

A joystick shouldn't feel out of place though? I got one specifically for those awesome space sims (at the time I got it I solely bought it for Freespace 2), just to replace the mouse :D

First of all, don't double post. You can easily edit your posts to add more.

Second, don't be a jerk. Even if you use mouse and keyboard and don't see the appeal in controllers, that doesn't mean that people who believe otherwise are infants.

I was just asking out of interest, there was no need to call me infant for asking a question.
