Lobo appreciation thread: http://steamcommunity.com/groups/TheConsortiumClan/discussions/0/35220315863756983/
I don't see why Ordona wouldn't check in with Jonesy about the joke before making decisions like this.
Because it wasn't worded at all like a joke. @Lobo: Sorry you feel that way, but I was just enforcing the rules. Generally jokes like that don't fly well in "serious" threads like the one you posted in if I recall the thread correctly. Your post would be either considered offtopic or snide either way.
Eh, I guess I can understand that. Still doesn't sit well me though, I guess we should keep the camaraderie off of GD or news if that's where he posted. One question though, Lobo has had a history of posting like that in news and it hasn't gotten him in serious trouble until now. Was this warning because of the "clamp down" I and other members are seeing on the forums?
I probably wouldn't have cared if it was in GD or News, but the thread was in the Help forum asking about how to go about bringing up concerns regarding a staff member treating a user unfairly.
I'd like to know this too. I understand that there WAS a clamp down, but obviously distinctions have to be made between members who are active, large parts of the community who only joke, and a new account on a proxy IP who shit posts just to hate on CF because they're butthurt for various reasons. imo, SOMETHING needs to be re-re-evaluated with this or we'll see a huge exodus of users from the forums (which I don't want to happen)
Oh, not the best place to joke around then. I still can't help but think this was too heavy handed though. Lobo isn't just a random shit poster. Old habits die hard I guess. It's not like the steam group is going to be better, only even more inactive. I'm staying in both and I suggest everyone else does the same. I'm not going to think better of anyone for jumping into the smaller ship when we hit a bump.
Perhaps, but then someone could say we're playing favourites if they got warned and Lobo didn't for a similar post just because they were deemed a shit-poster.
Touche. It's just a shame a good member had to be caught in the cross-fire but I completely understand that and hope others will too.
In most other cases on forums I was on that were old as dirt, the mods WOULD play favorites and that worked. If you were an active, well known member, sometimes its a good thing to be given a little leeway with what you do and if you pissed off a mod, then they'd let you know about it, and if it still required points to be giving, points were given. Simple as that. Expecting a forum to work as if it was a story of 1984 isn't a great way to run things, but who am I, a simple Sexual Rhinoceros, to judge!
To be fair though, the Chucklefish forums is large and a lot of the members are vicious. People would constantly harass "favorites" and the mods here. The system you showed as a example would be my preferred method for the mods to deal with things though. Detailing to old members what to do and what not to do might help.
I'm sure it could work in some situations, but I've just received way too many "but this post by this user wasn't given a warning and it's basically the same as mine" appeals when I've never even seen the post they link me to before.
true, but its not like there has to be a list and its not like a mod would have to declare in the courtyard full of chucklefish forums members their favorites like "Ye Old British Announcer". Its really just, thinking "I've seen this user around, they don't shit post, they like to have fun, I probably shouldn't jump to a conclusion!" I mean, I try and defend CF a ton (yeah thats me on the 4chan threads saying "guys they aren't that bad") but stuff like this makes it hard. Once again, only a lowly sexual mammal though, no room for true judgement cause I've never done anything moderation wise on the forums Yeah, but I've heard too many cases of (if you will) the swift ban hammer being gone to before other options, as if the user was but in a flock of thousands more, ready to replace them. IMO Infractions are the last thing to go to in most cases and its not the same way here. Side note: this probably isn't the place to discuss this either! Sorry!
