    ...
    Did you look at any of the entries?
    10% were 'cute but actually evil' and one of them was actually the exact same concept as the Poptop, though that one looked more like Mawille than the PopTop. The Poptop blatantly is not creative; once you get past the whole 'zomg great presentation' it's not even close to creative, just blandly cute.

    Also: WTF TORTERRA. D:
    That is still only one out of 30 Skatera. e_e

    Are you mad just because yours didn't win? Cuz that's just being a sore loser. Not saying you are, and there were tons of entries, so maybe the devs didn't see that one. And no offense but yours didn't really fit into the starbound theme, ya know. Just expressing my opinion, so don't hate. :)

    I think that one of the reasons that some of us didn't win might've been because some of our entries would be a little difficult for normal enemies. My entry was designed to be a boss, and I didn't really want to obligate the devs to program a boss that they don't need to. That's probably why the winners were relatively small compared to what some of our ideas were.

    Lol. YESSS, LUNATONE! I only remember after doing all that work on my Moon X3;;

    Wait..is that the elly fish one in it's MOUTH?"

    Devil Gundam? That's all I could think about, but with the things on top and a number of various weapons and such coming out of mimic/chests :)

    Yeah, I understand that, and I'm not sore because I won, but rather because, I knew I wouldn't win, but I'm sore that the PopTop won. I would have strongly preferred ANY of the other entries that got honorable mention, etc. to win.
    @Yen: i don't even...

    So many pokemons here.:speechless:

    At least one of my creatures takes inspiration from an obscure indie RPGMaker-horror game.
    And another one from Full Metal Alchemist.

    No offense, but I find it kinda ironic that you made this thread to congratulate the winners, yet keep bitching about them...

    To be completely honest, with almost 650 pokemon currently it's not unlikely that many ideas may look similar to one of them, especially since so many are based on animals, objects, and tons of other stuff.
    And I understand that many people wanted other ideas to win, but this contest was the choice of the devs, and they would know what would fit the game best. I don't think it was the presentation that won the contest for the Poptops, but more their cute, quirky design. Physically, they look like something that could really live, move and fight for itself. That doesn't rely on artistic talent. That relies on creative talent.
    But you're all welcome to your own opinions of course! :)

    I did make it to congratulate the winners. I have already expressed my views on the results, and will stop.

    @Flu: Yeah, seriously. Too many Pokemon. e_e
    As for your second point; I saw a lot of ideas that also had a dynamic design. While I understand that it is ultimately the developer's choice, I can't help but feel that adding in some sort of fan-based poll would help matters, since after all, we ARE the people who are ultimately going to be playing the game.

    But won't there be issues, if say....someone bring in people from other places to vote for them and things like that? That would skew the results terribly! And the devs will have to make sure it's workable in-game without taking up -too much- time to keep roughly to the estimated release date.

    --Also, I couldn't help the gundam reference :p

  13. TheDeviant

    TheDeviant Sandwich Man

    Well then, say...Only people who entered BEFORE the contest started could vote. I don't know; I still do think it would be a good idea to have feedback at least SOMEWHERE in the process.

    Also: Gundam, WTF? Code Geass>>>>>>>>>>>Gundam.

    Just drop it, whoever won, won.

    I dunno how I got a derpy star, but there we go. I'm sure almost all the entries will be in the game in some form - most of them were either a) based on a basic idea, like the giant ant colony, or b) too ridiculous to be in the game in the first place.

    I'm suprised Red Space Monkey didn't get in the top 3, his presentation was incredible and the idea was pretty cool. Oh well, the Devs have much different opinions I guess.

    Come on guys! Stop fighting about who won. We're better than that, don't you think? I honestly cannot wait to see the Virorbs, Poptops, Mindwurms, and Bad Moons in Starbound. I really want some of the honorable mentions too.

    The point is, it doesn't matter who won or lost, what matters is the fact that some very creative creatures will be in Starbound. AND if you REALLY want to win, there's always the next contest.;)
