Confusing warm meter

I was confuse. I was like: "My sun bar decrease... I'm a floran, a plant... Oh god ! My photosynthesis rate decrease! I need sunlight!"

    - 1st idea: make the bar vertical and look like a thermometer, with a skull on the last mark.

    - 2nd idea: replace the left arrow that indicate you get cold by a snowflake, and the right arrow by a little flame.

    - 3rd idea: make the color of the bar from blue to red.

-4th idea: just replace the sun icon by a thermometer icon

the white fog effect were confusing too for me. I got that I was falling unconscious, but wasn't able to figure why.

    - 1st idea: make it dark / blue

    - 2nd idea: add a wind noise, or a flickering breath noise.

4th idea is by far the simplest and most valid.
The fog doesn't need a change imho, you are getting cold - freezing... maybe clattering teeth?

+1 on the 4th idea, i wasn't even aware it was a warmth meter, i though it was a light meter (never quite understood it)

Same here, I quite like the 4th suggestion. As I haven't read or spoiled anything about game features prior to the beta, it took me a while to figure out that I was getting cold and could eventually die of it. At first I thought that it was a timer to the next dawn.

I noticed the breath turning into vapour as the bar dropped, and that it regenned next to torches and the campfire, but as the picture was the sun, I assumed it was a light meter and some weird sanity effect. It wasn't until coming onto the forums today that I found out it was a temperature meter. +many for changing it to be more indicative of temperature. I'm for either 2 or 3, but 4 is certainly the simplest.

Took us about 3 total freezing deaths to not think it was a 'time of day' indicator, further confusing by the fact that it often gets cold at night, so sun setting and meter dropping go hand in hand. I think just a snowflake indicator or thermometer would do it, the sun indicator is what made it confusing.

Why did it take you 3 freezing deaths to learn that you were freezing?:geek:

Honestly, I think it's fine. But for others, I guess an icon change could be in order.

Didn't know I was freezing. The screen went white and health started dropping and then I died. That doesn't really tell me anything at all. I haven't been following the game until beta here, so I had no pre knowledge that there even was temperature in the game.

It could have been some 'solar flare' from the planet for all I could guess. So I froze, my friend froze, then I froze again, then I saw the breath coming out finally the third time it was happening and then figured it out by moving near a camp fire. The planet I'm on gets cold randomly during the day and at night as well.

Yeah, changing the icon for a small thermometer both on the bar and in the equipement description might clear things up a little bit... not that I didn;t know this was temperature but I've been around for quite some time so I knew already.
