Concerning Lifespans...

So one question has had me bugged for some time now. How long does each of the Star Bound typically last? From a lore aspect I am rather curious. Does the respawn tech via the ships essentially remove permanent death for those fortunate to have ships with the tech? I know some lore bits get to that Floran wont pass by time. Do Apex share a similar life span with the other 'fleshy' races? Do Glitch essentially live on until they are 'broken'? What are your thoughts people?

I would imagine that due to similar genetic makeup and metabolism, the apex and human share relatively similar lifespans. Humans most likely live longer in starbound due to increased knowledge in the field of medicine. Due to apex having advanced technology, as well as having tampered with their genetics, it is possible that they have found ways to increase their lives beyond natural means.
The Avians and Hylotl probably live about as long as humans as well, but if there was a difference I'd imagine their lives to be a tad shorter due to the increased metabolisms of birds and amphibians.
The glitch could essentially live forever with proper maintenance, but as they reproduce by building more glitch, they must logically die. Whoever created the glitch designed them to mimic a real sentient race as closely as possible, so they likely have a failsafe that shuts them down after a set lifespan to emulate living creatures.
The floran, being sentient plants, could likely live for a very long time, or possibly indefinitely. However, their culture is highly violent, and floran probably don't live long enough to die from natural causes very often.
I really have no idea about the Novakids. On the original suggestion he said that they die when their outer plasma shell becomes thinner until they eventually blow up, so they do die. Actual stars have lifespans of billions of years, but these guys are a lot smaller than that, so take from that what you will.

I have no clue, but I am sure lore will be made for that in the future.

Well, for the Novakids I suppose someone would have to do the math on how how many Novakids fit in a Sun or something. Then find the scale ratio of Novakid to Star and scale down the Lifespan of the Star to the ratio. Might get the lifespan of Novakid? I don't know, just a guess but not like I want to do all that math

It'll not work, I tried it and got roughly 0.04 years ^^'

Considering that your basicly cloned everytime you die i would assume the current lifespan of most races are "as long as you feel like".

Yeah but you are just a copy, the original you is long dead!

If they have conscious transfer i wouldent realy care. (I go with the "we are just our experience and knowledge" theory, so in my humble opinion its still "you". Off course there are several other theory's on what a person realy is, so aloot of people would disagree).

Yes technically you are the same, but you no longer are the you that was born from your parents. You are an exact replica of the original you.

Also rule of thumb, if you think something or believe something chances are some one out their disagrees.

    On Novakids and Star Lifespans:

In General the smaller the Star is, the longer it will live. because they burn through their fuel much slower than their bigger cousins.

in regards to the cloning, i think the respawn thing most likely works like the vita-chambers in bioshock 1 and 2, namely they only activate if the death was unnatural/violent, and not if it was simply the case of your heart stopping (as if from old age). i guess for novakids that is a bit of an odd one, since when they die of old age (or anything not related to losing all their vital gasses like with a leak in their shell) they explode violently, possibly tricking the respawn into thinking it was a violent death?

"but you no longer are the you that was born from your parents".

Thats (most likely, unless we have some realy young kids here) true for everyone on these forums. You naturally replace 98% of all the atoms in your body in less than one year.

If you want to be a real stickler about it and account for the last atom and every little sinew and collagen and cartilage, then in less than two and a half years you replace every atom in your body down to the last single atom (some say it would take longer, 5 too 10 years).

(Pretty much a edited quote, not something writen by my own words)

Isn't that just a theory that is being dis-proven because some tissue never replaces atoms.

To me, this brings up the question of hippocampal neurogenesis. Do the memories we form within this specific brain region get replaced as cells die and are replaced? So are there memories being transferred to new cells as they form in the hippocampus? A chemical back-up process of sorts.

As you say, common belief is that all cells are replaced, yet the consciousness is unaffected by the "death" of hippocampal cells (and the stored memories therein).

    Interesting. :)

According to what i can find on the internet the 98% in less then a year is (somewhat) confirmed, as for the rest... maybe not.

Off course i have no personal knowledge to confirm or deny it.

Ok. I like a good Science talk as much as anyone, but we seem to have gotten off the topic a bit. :)

Fine, everyone lives for (insert guess here) years. I came up with this by throwing darts at a board with random numbers on it.

Yes, of course! Many of this is only relative to Starbound human characters. We cannot apply human scientific thought to some of the races present in this game (Especially NovaKids - I am curious to read more of their lore!).

    Interesting, nonetheless :)
