I would like to first make a disclaimer: I LOVE Terraria and I played the hell out of that game. I think that Starbound is steps above Terraria in many ways, especially visually. I have some concerns after playing for hours though. I understand it is a Beta, I understand things will and may change. That being said I want Starbound to be as epic as I expect it will be so I would like to say my concerns in hope that either they are false or may be corrected.

After playing for hours I found a neat castle inhabited by Gltich people. Sadly they attacked me on sight so I returned the favor. I received a huge amount of pixels for each kill and I didn't even have to use my melee weapon.. Once you get the Iron Bow it makes using melee weapons pointless when you can just snipe (unless you are trying to get pixels from alien monsters). The Iron Bow is a bit OP for how easily you can get it.

Also, There just isn't any interesting loot compared to Terraria so far that I have come across. I have delved deep into the earth and all I find are the pixel containers.. rarely a chest and if there is the items are terrible. Supposedly there's guns and etc. but no way to craft them? The crafting database seems very superficial compared to Terraria so far. I am unaware if more will be added or what.. Sure it was neat going to another planet but when it is bare as a baby's bottom in regards to dungeons and loot I got bored fast. Sure, the enemy variety is neat but they are just visually different for the most part. They don't drop anything special.

There's a lot of potential here but so far I am disappointed because it's just not living up to Terraria. I do hope things do improve because I want this to be successful. Just some thoughts and musings and I hope the devs can read it. It isn't a roast or any kind, a friendly criticism. I paid them the money because I wanted to support them in the effort so I am taking it a step further in trying to help with feedback.

P.S. when you try to use water as a "hellivator" lik from Terraria it doesn't work. I tried to follow the water AS it was descending.. it slowed my fall, in fact I rode a drop of water all the way down and at a slow speed but still took the fall damage for some strange reason. Not sure if this was intentional.

    - Really? Whining about the number of items when only parts of tier 1 to 3 are in, and random bits of other tiers? Really?

    - Get out of your lvl 1 planet and come tell us that the iron bow is OP

    - This game is about exploration, not digging. A lot of ore can be found on the surface of the planet. Heck, I killed tier 2 boss and I havent dig at all (at least not alot)

There is clearly a lot of content missing, once quests start being added, I expect it will get a lot better.

The Iron bow problem you mention is really about AP levels. The bow is level 5, you're planet was probably lower level than that, so most everything is a 1 shot kill. Build a level 5 melee weapon and you will see the same thing.

I think a bit of work needs to go into the scaling of weapon level vs threat level, but dont expect your bow to always be the best weapon.

    1) I am not whining, I am expressing concerns. 2) if you can't conduct yourself appropriately to my post then kindly move on.

Sorry, when people compare a 2 years old game to a 3 day beta with a warning that a LOT of stuff isnt currently in it, and say that it doesnt have the same amount of content, I get mad

I think your concerns are unwarranted at this point in time because it is the first version of the beta, this is the stage where things are meant to improve.

An early beta not living up to a fully released game? Who could possibly have predicted that?

don't be a smartass, I don't know what is to be expected of the game so they were concerns of mine. I already stated that they might be addressed later or they might not. I have no idea.

Yeah uh guys, can we please try not to be so hostile to people making valid criticisms and voicing concerns. This kind of feedback is what helps the game develop, so let's all try to get on please. :)

This must be your first beta, if not then your first early beta. There's probably only like a 3rd if not less of the end content right now. Think of it this way, this game probably wont be considered "done" for another 4 months minimum.

    Beta. Beta. Beta.

Oh, and as a reminder.... BETA...

But one of, if not THE, most polished betas I've ever played. Lacking content, yes. But where will we be in a week? A month? 6 months? I think the devs need to put a loading screen in that says, "It's a fookin' Beta" so people remember. It's so polished, it's kinda easy to forget that WE'RE the first batch of people that are supposed to be testing and reporting errors, so they can be fixed prior to more content generation.

I have to agree mostly with the treasure chests. I don't mind them being scarce really, but the incentive to loot them is not there. I completely understand this is a beta and that things will progress and there is going to be a reason to loot chests in the future, but right now anything you find in them is pretty much garbage (With the exception of tech and such.) All we can really expect is to have a little patience for things to really start getting polished up.

No need for namecalling, but I do apologize if I have upset you. The thing is; even a casual inspection of the available information for the games planned development during beta would have put the majority of your concerns to rest.

I totally understand that there are going to be things missing.. But considering I have not been following anything up until Kotaku did a post about it the day before release I don't know what is to come and what isn't. Maybe I worded the title wrong? I do not claim to be anything more than ignorant as to how wonderful the game will be out of beta. That is why I stated in my post that if I am wrong about features and etc. please just let me know. I am okay with being informed out of ignorance. Questions are asked to learn right?

Go on higher level planets. Your Iron Bow doesn't remain OP.

As for loot, not everything is in the game, this is just stage 1, the bare amount stage. I'm fairly sure they explained this, as well.

Don't play a game that's on day three of its first beta stage and compare it to a game that's been released and updated for years, please.

I offer a friendly observation to the OP : this isn't Terraria. I know it looks similar, and the ground/planetside game is similar, but to me this is a different game. We have spaceships, there are nigh limitless planets and galaxies to explore, and we have a lot of modern tools, weapons, vehicles and building materials compared to Terraria.

I find I am playing Starbound many orders of magnitude greater amount of time than I ever did Terraria, and honestly I just love this game.

So try to be patient, its only going to get better :D

I'd recommend having a read at this KillerGymSox, it sums up what to expect from each stage of the beta - http://playstarbound.com/how-the-beta-is-going-to-work/

Don't be concerned about content for now, suggest things for sure as the devs love the feedback and even after a day they have implemented changes that the community has suggested (I have rarely seen this in games that have been out months, let alone hours) but don't voice them as concerns or bugs (unless it's a bug that breaks the game) otherwise you will receive negative comments from people. Just keep an open mind for now, things will change drastically for the first weeks/months of the game.

The issue is resolved and he has been directed to the information that will help him with his concerns, there is no need for any further (and pointless) arguments over it. Would even recommend closing the post but that's up to the mods and the OP (if he has anything else he wants to ask).
