If I didn't know better I'd say this looked pretty intimidating, like it's run by some sort of evil corporation or something. Good thing I know it's not, right? Right?
It's alive! And blood red! Good to have a link to the Network of Starbound Fanfiction Writers here too: http://community.playstarbound.com/threads/network-of-starbound-fanfiction-writers.103004/ That's right. Certainly it's not a corporation.
This post I posted back on the clan page might be helpful. I realized that the original post left a lot of things fairly open-ended, so I'll probably be editing it a lot. I apologize for any inconvenience.
Okay, I'll start! Maybe one character will get the ball rolling, so to speak. Name: Waxworth the Splendiferous Age: I'll assume that in this canon Glitch live longer than humans, and are built fully grown, but that's a whole different can of worms to be discussed in detail later. He's the equivalent of late thirties-early forties human age. Race: Glitch Gender: Male programming Back story: Waxworth was a court wizard on a remote planet who managed to unshackle himself through pure curiosity. After delving deep into the secrets of the arcane, realized that Glitch "magic" was technology, which triggered something in his programming, releasing him from the hivemind. This might be a disappointment to other court wizards, but Waxworth took it in stride. He continued his studies in secret, aspiring to become the greatest manipulator ever built. Unfortunately, he was soon found out by the shackled Glitch, but Waxworth had planned for this eventuality, and escaped on a ramshackle ship he had constructed of his own design. Now able to access the entire galaxy's secrets, he's prepared to do anything to be known as the most splendiferous techno-wizard in the universe! Description (traits/flaws, appearance, etc.): Waxworth is a short, purple-coloured Glitch that wears slightly-tattered robes and a floppy wizard hat. I created the idea because I don't think Starbound's manipulator path has really been explored in stories yet. He's passionate, studious, and determined- Waxworth will never, ever give up. He's also reckless, condescending, and operates on a slippery sense of morals. His goal is to be the greatest manipulator in the galaxy. To Waxworth, technology is just the logical step up from magic. True to this goal, he carries around a repertoire of sci-staffs of various functionalities and is constantly on the search for more research and materials, constructing and inventing ever-greater contraptions. I think that Waxworth isn't really protagonist material, but he could work as a primary cast member, minor encounter, or even a minor antagonist.
I'll take a hit at it too - if not for anything else, then for reviving this thread Name: Aire Quintessence; Pronunciation like air (with possible rolling sound at the 'r'. Age: 24 and two thirds. Ah just kidding, no-one counts the fractions of their age. Race: Human Gender: Male Back story: Aire was not unlike many other humans: He had skin, and eyes, and a nose. But something stood out about him, which was his family relations. Born to Glitch parents - hush, they haven't told him he was adopted - he always felt alienated around his own kin. He was a loner, but he didn't care much about it: He loved his parents and spent all his time together in their airborne castle in the sky. His mother, a C.L.E.A.N-1320 (though he just called her Cleanne), taught him about the core concepts of life - 1's and 0's -, while his father, a dabbler in alchemy and engineering, showed him the world of the arcane arts and high-frequency sound grenades. As he matured, he realised he was no Glitch - or at least a very special one (which his mother had always told him) - and he soon begun philosophing over his mysterious biology, which led him to the conclusion, that his mother had been his father unfaithful (Eh, that's half the truth, right?). Flustered with the sudden realization of his unknown heritage, he stormed out of the castle in the sky, beaming down to the nearest planet. A tragedy then befell the castle as a geomagnetic storm of such size that hasnt been recorded for millenias surged across the planet: Every electrical system short-circuited leading to the castle tumbling down from the sky, no non-electronic caretaker to save it before it had fallen, and with it, everything inside. When Aire returned, he found his home as well as his family in smithereens: Amongst the unregonizable piles of circuitboards and bolts, he found his the visionary light and color sensors of his mother (her eyes, basically), which he to this day wears as goggles upon his head. Having lost all his known relatives, he set out to find the one, he didn't know: His biological father. Description (traits/flaws, appearance, etc.): Aire is a rather tall, lean human with tobacco-brown hair and gunmetal blue eyes. Upon his person he carries but a black coat, a white silk shirt, black leather pants, a pair of goggles, a sniper rifle (that he won in a bet against Human, who didn't believe he was in fact a Glitch) and a few half burned books on the subject of alchemy. He is a loner, but finds comfort in crowds; he is intelligent, but silent and he is above and beyond everything else a coward. As he grew up with only himself and his parents, having not a lot to do, he has spent hours upon end looking at himself in the mirror, and as an effect of this, he is somewhat egocentric and self-absorbed, he loves caring for himself and buying fancy new clothes (which with the exception of the classy white shirt and black pants, always end up lost). His goal in life is finding his missing, biological parent(s), but is also in search of the Philosopher's Stone, granting him the power to turn coal into gold.
Okeydokey here's my character app: Name: Zafar Ranver Race: Human Gender: Male Age: 47 Back Story: Zafar began his shady career as a Black Market dealer in the far corner of the Pritos Nebula. He had a troubled upbringing, parents being unable to pay the rent of their apartment back on his home planet, his dad was an alcoholic and his mother was stressed to breaking point. As soon as he could, Zafar stole a SportsCruiser from a very wealthy businessman that was visiting the nearby casino. He stayed in many places around the nebula since then and once he was twenty years old he decided to track down the Black Market. He'd only heard fleeting rumours about it and it certainly wasn't easy to find. He'd threatened merchants at gun point and dealt with small gangs, all so he could gain enough info for the Market's whereabouts. He found them, their leader was a battle-hardened Apex named Doran, one that didn't believe in all the crap that most Apex followed like the bible. He had liked Zafar's blunt attitude and inability to take no for an answer and decide to give him a job running a trader outpost deep in Glitch territory. The job was set up to be a failure, Doran had known the business didn't turn over enough profit to keep running and was on it's last legs. However once Zafar began running it, the business's profit went up tenfold. Zafar was given a promotion to be a fully fledged pirate and he was given a large, but still very fast, ship which was fitted with some very rare combat tech. He knew this was the way he wanted to live, piracy was his passion. At least it was until his fleet was destroyed and he crashed on a nearby desert planet. He survived the crash but could he survive the planet...? Description: Zafar is a rough-around-the-edges type guy, he dresses in a lightweight leather armour and has a string of assorted ears attached to his belt. He carries a scimitar and two laser pistols that he keeps in holsters on his back. He is average height, with sandy blonde hair and a scar running diagonally across his face. Zafar is an eccentric, being in the pirate business for twenty-five years had taken it's toll on him, occasionally he talks in riddles and is extremely desensitised to violence and emotion. He has a profound hate of Avians and gets along well with Hytol and the Apex.
Will you start on the story now that there are enough characters? It'll be interesting to see how you make characters created by completely different authors fit into the same story. Or are the authors all just my alternate accounts? Nobody knows... Anyway, story. Please write. Want to read. Cool.
Ouch, seems like my character was omitted (purposefully, perhaps?). Anyways, this: and this: Yours truly, AliasPseudonym Gilligan Tatterdemalion Lavranzo
Wait what, shnap, I wanted to join. But perhaps it's for the best, as I already have a lot on my hands...
One can never have to much on their hands. Well, unless its hand cream - some people stick to every doorknob they touch. At least I hope that's hand cream...
I might have to make a character once I get off of work today in the event that *fingers crossed* the internet at my apartment is fixed.
Hey, what's happening in this fab thread, cats? I just came to the jam for a neat story, but it looks like it was a bum trip! Now don't you lose your cool at my hip lingo, daddy-o. Just hang loose.
