Or y'know.. Linux is free.. and actually a hella lot more stable than windows especially long term ^-^ Starbound runs on it, no need to spend 300$ on crap :p

only reason my desktop has win7 is for Origin and BF3/4
Most of the games I play (Binding of Isaac, Super Meat Boy, StarBound) run on Linux.

The only time I need windows is for Civ5, Skyrim or playing the battlefield series.. xD
Even then, I hear constantly from friends that all kinds of people have games like Skyrim, WoW, etc..
working perfectly on their linux box *_*

Overall very good changes, even though i realize some people do not like them. The issue with the previous system was that you either dominated or were dominated, with items you made or obtained quickly becoming pointless, outside of how AP or armor values. I think the changes will allow you to create a more smooth flow to the game, as well as tailoring encounters such as bosses and mini bosses to be far more enjoyable, looking forward to the changes to see how they play out.

Use my resources? As far as I can tell, in-game there is yet to be that explanation, or any resource within it that explains where to obtain ranged weaponry beyond Armor Pen 15. The only reason I know about pirate ships is because I had to go research if firearms were even implemented in this beta at about the 20 hour mark. Even knowing about the pirate ships doesn't make them magically appear on the next random-gen planet I stumble across.

I don't think it's unreasonable to mention having crafted bows higher than steel. What I think is unreasonable is you attacking me for bringing up an experience of mine that could very well be proof of a major balancing issue.

I'd just like to say thank you to the devs on this! The leveling system must have taken a long time to implement, and obviously someone spent a lot of time on it. So throwing it away really takes some guts... it's not often you see this happen. But it will make the game much, much more enjoyable.

Well what you're saying its kind of stupid (no offense) since its a lot different cutting PLAYER LEVELS on a MMO cause they would never LVL UP (only 10 times) and they wouldn't be able to progress. You would have to LVL A LOT with the same equip in that case and no new content would be available until you lvl up since weapons, skills, etc on WOW are based on the lvl you have to be able to wear them. You just complaining cause u think there's gonna be less content cause u think Numbers going down from 100 to 10 is gonna restrict the game to 10%. I doesnt matter what "it seems" it matters what IS.

Does anyone know if our entire inventory and our ship decor will be wiped? x:
I'm alright with losing inventory and resources, but I was quite fond of my ship decor... </3

I think, part of the reason to reset would be to test this new system out from the ground up as opposed to being prepared for it. Remember when you first beamed down to your first planet with your starting gear? You had practically nothing and you had to fend off monsters from every which direction. I think in order for a balance update to be successful you have to recreate that moment with the new changes to see how much more difficult or how much easier you made intro play.

You could argue that we could just create new characters but in that case you'd still have a base, etc. The second part of that would be that half the players wouldnt create new characters for this and that might skew people's responses to the change.

That's just my thoughts on the matter.

People like you shouldn't be playing the BETA. You WILL lose all your resources, and you WILL update the game. That's a fact.

It comes when it comes - like the beta announcement, I'd rather they work until its finished and publish it then, instead of them setting a deadline and having to cut features.

hm, maybe a bit late for a suggestion ;) but at least I'll post my toughs on the combat/damage system.
There are two main approaches to a level system. The japan style increase the damage and hit points for each level by 10. So you have 10.000.000 hit points. Or the western style with a hit/miss ratio to lower the damage for higher levels.

I think the original approach wasn't that bad. It needed obversely some tweaks and with a different wording it should worked fine. For example change the stats from armor-piercing 5 and 25 damage to level 5 and 25% damage. Then you would know it takes 4 hits for a level 5 creature and more for a level 6 creature. The remaining question would be how much more hits? and how much for level 10?

IMO you should have a comfort zone and a max range in which you can fight. Creatures that are twice as your level are impossible to harm and creatures less then 50% of your level are onehits. (all numbers are made up and need tweaks e.g. min 5 level difference on lower levels and level 100 might not be able to hit level 200 and so on)

Wow, people are actually complaining about the "level cut"?

They're not cutting content, or making it harder for progression. Quite the opposite, they're trying to make progression more consistent and balanced. While we currently have an Alpha sector with planets from "lvl 1" to "lvl 10", we'll now have an Alpha sector with "easy", "medium" and "hard" worlds. I honestly like the word description of a world's difficulty than tacking yet another number on it.

Well the thread was renamed to "coming in a few days sorry for the delay" so I'd assume they've already passed their initial deadline and its nearing completion to roll out. With that in mind I thought it would also be likely they have a new deadline as to when the patch might launch. I heard it was Monday but wasn't sure and there doesn't seem to be any information out there in regards to this.

You know, I don't mind the wipe... But is there a way to craft more clothing items preferably the fancy hat? Idk how rare it is to obtain but if snowmen are an extreme rare thing to murder for it it might take forever to obtain another fancy hat again.

I don't mind them cutting planet levels, but I would prefer that they kept the current damage system as is with monster levels refering to their armor rating/piercing. I think it works well. I don't mind being one shot by a guy over my armor's level wielding a big hammer when I didn't block the hit.

You and I may not mind the difficulty curve the game presents in its current state, but that doesn't make the game balanced. Heck, I'd love for games to go back to the cruel methodology in games of old. You DIE and you then have to START OVER.... FROM THE BEGINNING. But, hey, I'm not the entire populous of gamers, sadly. I'll just wait patiently until Starbound has a Hardcore mode I can switch to and enjoy my cruel punishments for death. ;)

I can understand why the system was implemented - theoretically mixing damage, difficulty, and threat sounds pretty cool and tactical, but even only 10 hours in it was getting a bit weird.

I also understand changing the system and wiping - it makes things easier to update.

Actually it takes serious cajones - and some well written code - to even be able to manage something like this. As a Program Manager, I salute your organization ;)

I think you might actually want to, you know get out of alpha before chiming in with your thoughts on balancing.

With the BEST of the best in game, you will get one shot if hit, even while blocking. You no longer one shot enemies, but they still one shot you, the only way to avoid it is to use a gun from very far away.

As it stands, blocking becomes useless very very early in the game.
