Sounds like good news, ...but it also means I'll have to wait a few days before being able to play :SadWinXPUser:

I'm okay with the reset. I progressed a bit too quickly for my liking, as the robot boss was too easy to construct and to defeat.

However, I'm still waiting for when Platinum and Diamond will show up in the wild, deep down and actually able to be mined rather than leaving it up to RNG.

Yes, please do. If you're still trying to fix XP then of course it's understable, but if you have the XP issues fixed now, then please release that as a patch. Rebalancing the entirety of combat sounds like the kind of change which will take longer than expected, so there's no need to delay the XP fix due to combat changes :).

I like the armour penetration system it doesn't need to be replaced just explained a little bit and tweaked to have a smoother progression. Just because a system is a little bit more complicated doesn't mean it's bad.

These dungeons need to have at least one chest with a worthwhile item in it. Some of the dungeons I've been to have nothing but scenery and tough monsters.

Just adding my 2 cents - I think it is VITALLY important that there actually be some difference between the weapons. Right now, armor penetration is basically the only differing factor in melee weapons. Slow weapons hit hard, fast weapons hit low, but it all averages about to be the same dps... for every weapon. We should be excited to find new weapons and see how it compares to our current setup, not just grabbing the first weapon we see and knowing it'll kill everything its level or lower, as now.

It follows from that, that if every weapon drop is viable for the entire sector, that every weapon drop will be BORING. Planets within sectors should have levels, and then within the planets should have the easy/med/hard enemies. Perhaps 3 planet levels per sector, to prevent extreme ballooning of numbers, but if everything is viable then there's no reason to explore for those of us who like to focus on the combat and survival aspect of these sandbox games.

Tiy, Can I suggest you release the XP fix for some of the users who are unable to play? Sad to see them wait for a tad longer.

PS: Now do windows 7  lul jkin

PSS: Great to hear combat and armor and all that funstuff is getting redone.

But making all planets in a single tier the same level sounds like it will discourage actual exploration extremely...If all the planets in any given tier will all be the same difficulty and have the same level of drops what's even the point of leaving?

Well i guess i COULD redecorate my ship again after the wipe. Back to basics and stealing everything that hasn't been nailed down again :p.

On a serious note, This new update to the levels and armor pen will make the system a little easier to understand which will enable us to understand the damage better and be ale to prepare better for the next planet/sector. Good work Tiy keep the updates a rollin' :D

Could there be some kind of indicator on your inventory screen that estimates your character's strength level +tier? That might help a bit too.

I really like the idea of revamping the weapon/armor/damage system. As Tiy said, it can be really confusing to know which of two weapons is going to do more damage when you have to factor in armor penetration. Having a quickly visible DPS will be very nice.
Also, removing the armor rating from monsters will be nice in keeping with this idea.

I don't really like the idea of changing from the base 100 level system to a base 10 level system. I also like the fact that monsters have a level as well in the current build. I feel like switching to "Easy, Medium, Hard" really dumbs down the system rather than coming up with an elegant solution. (I'm reminded of when the devs asked us about the printed text idea for labeling ship functions: "LOCKER" "FUEL")I would really prefer to keep working around the 100 level system.

"When working with 100 levels, without the armor penetration system you end up with absurd damage/health values that are far too big to be manageable and that’s the reason this system was originally in place."

Honestly, having very high numbers in the later stages of the game would be kind of cool. Keep them absurd and balance around it. Creatures and gear that are exponentially more powerful than the initial numbers at the start of the game. I always liked playing around with really huge numbers in RPGs. I don't really see why these numbers couldn't be managed. It would just require a little more time balancing.

On this same note, especially if armors will have health and energy buffs, I think it would be nice to view these values in number form rather than bar form. Perhaps make this functionality toggled between the two looks?

Character resets are part of the beta process, so you'll never see me get mad about it.

Well that's my two cents. I love this game.

    Thanks Tiy!

My biggest issue with the current system isn't the lack of clarity for damage values and that kind of thing, although that is a problem. My biggest issue is that gear is only useful in a very small level range. I've gotten one hit killed on a threat level 18 planet with 15 defense. That's kind of crazy. The problem is exasperated by a lack of high-defense armor for each tier, meaning for tier 2, TL17-20 planets will always be a crazy pain zone. Even if they addressed these issues by widening the level range equipment is useful in and adding in more armor sets, I'd be happy. The complete redesign proposed does sound promising, however. I'm going to share the concern a couple other people have had. All Alpha planets will be TL1 now, I just hope they aren't all the same difficulty. That the planets will be classified as easy/medium/hard, and not just the monsters. And also that going deeper underground will still spawn progressively harder monsters. I like the feeling of having areas and planets that you have to avoid until you get better gear, it's just way too insane with the current system.

Overall though, I'm very glad this is being addressed. Even if this is not a perfect solution, there is still a lot of time left in the beta to make these kinds of changes and I'm confident we'll arrive at a really fun end result.

Since it was stated that Windows XP would be supported, I feel justified to say this. I would not have bought the game had it been explicitly stated that XP wouldn't be supported. But I see that this was something the developers didn't see coming.

If you're sure it'll work, know that I'm all for you. But please please tell us in advance if it doesn't work. If it doesn't work, it's fine, it's understandable. We'll just take a refund. No need to waste your time, and ours, to try to get something impossible done.

Refunds are including tax deductions, by the way, so I hope you haven't spent all that preorder money. ;)

  17. Hmm...
I really like the detailed level system. Makes you know "about" how strong a creature is.
Personally, I would still have 100 levels, but with greatly reduced variance between them.
The difference between a level 1 and a level 2 would be a slightly increased stat or two?
    Here's an example:
    Currently:
A person with level 1 gear can take out a level 4 creature, but with quite some difficulty. He/she may very well die.

    Updated:
A person with level 1 gear can take out a level 8 creature, but with quite some difficulty. He/she may very well die.

But I digress. I'm not even 100% sure how the damage and levels work currently.
All I know, is that things die super fast, and a single item can make the difference between destroying fools, and getting owned.

After playing Starbound for more than a few hours I'll admit, there is a steep learning curve. The controls take a bit getting used to and the customization system is a bit difficult to navigate at first, however I was very pleased with the character creation, but the story behind each is a bit lacking. There isn't much drive to get the player going despite there being sufficiently differing cultural styles.

My greatest fret when playing was how tedious it was to manage my inventory. A quick stack button would be beyond helpful.

Another peeve of mine is whenever I DO happen to stumble upon another inhabitant of a planet that doesn't wish to murder me on sight, I cannot talk to them. They might as well be a rock if I can't trade wares with them or elicit any kind of a response. I would like to be able to speak with an NPC and have them offer me a quest in exchange for pixels or an uncommon item.

Also the temperature gauge is a bit annoying. It would be nice for novice players to be able to toggle the temp and perhaps the hunger off and on.

Overall the game shows GREAT I hope to see Starbound become infinitely intriguing.

Sounds fine to me - now that I kinda sorta know how to get to Titanium tier doing so again should not be a problem. By the by, it would be awesome if you could look into fixing the platinum armor, as it gives the same stats as the gold set right now.

Really, this sounds fantastic, I just hope in each little sector (which I assume Alpha will all be level 1, Beta will all be level 2 on the 1-10 scale) that the planets are also rated with a "very easy, medium, impossible, etc"rating that corresponds to the creatures found.

The monster difficulty adds a lot of characteristics to planets, It felt great knowing I could finally go to those level 5 planets after an hour or two at those low-level planets.

Oh boy. And so the catering and slow decline of the game begins. The system was fine once you got used to it. Dumbing it down like this is disappointing.
