meant to say that it doesn't really change anything and I appreciate the static nature of weapon damage in the current system

Am I the only one upset about the increased HP on mobs? While my flamethrower is only an AP31 weapon, it burns things... and burn damage doesn't change (unless you're on a hot rock, where everything kinda dismisses the whole burning effect). I was still able to comfortably deal damage with a low level weapon on high level mobs.

... *sigh* Oh well. It's not like I'll have a flamethrower after the update anyway. :( Or maybe I will :ninja:

Moving past the character wipe grief, there's a balance issue I've been wanting to bring up but never got around to it. Why on earth was there a Gravity Bubble tech on my starter world? That tech is so OP it's unbelievable. I almost wish I hadn't have found it. The energy consumption was so negligable that you can hover indefinitely... effectively allowing you to stay out of reach of any mob and kill them as slowly as you desire. Now, I'm not sure if this is a bug or what, but just a little while ago I realized that the gravity bubble stopped consuming energy entirely. I could literally fly from the bottom of the world up into space without stopping, which I know I wasn't able to do when I first got it. Certain techs such as this should not be obtainable at all until at least mid to late game. Nerf it, please. I'm only human, I can't just not use it when it's so convenient. X3 I mean, as great fun as it was, I really shouldn't have been having a "Who's the better flying, fire-breathing monster" contest with the 3rd boss... and won. (He should be immune to burn, btw. Kinda makes sense) Pic, cuz it happened: http://puu.sh/5EGeF

Okay, rant over. Great game, looking forward to the update! Now to find something else to do for a few days.

To my understanding, they will do this:
Every Sector will have Planet levels from 1 to 10, 10 in Sector 1 and 1 in Sector 2 will maybe be around the same Strength.
On a Planet, the Monsters will have easy/medium/hard markers, depending on the Planet level.
So all in all, You will have 10*3*3 Levels (90), which is just under the original 100 levels, still with all easy/medium/hard on monsters representing 1 level differences, but that could be 2 levels different, which would make the level total even higher than before while still managing to make it easier to understand

Well at least the char wipe will solve that issue for you xD As you wont have it anymore

I think what I'll be looking forward to is having armor that's effective in each tier, as it stands now, the armor you can craft is only good for about half the tier (apart from alpha sector) so unless I want to run around in a bubble made of dirt/rock I can't really do much progression in the beta sector. =\ Looking forward to what the patch brings in terms of balance and challenge though!

Shouldn't you avoid getting hit instead of like tanking via armor?

I fear it may happen again. First thing on my todo list in the next patch is the hunt for my "old starter world". A couple hundred logs shouldn't be too difficult to muster. :ninja:
Besides... this is about testing for balance, right? If it's still on my old starter world, and it's still OP, there's clearly some more balancing to be done.

I suppose I should look forward to a rematch with the UFO. I feel I may be of the few people that actually killed it without hiding in a box. xD

Yes, but the armour is still supposed to keep you alive for a few hits, as the system works now, a difference in only 2-3 levels, which very well happens on the same planets that your armour is made for, will cause everything to 1-hit you.

I still haven't killed it. I've been having too much fun making new characters and seeing what kind of starter world I end up on. Then I delete them and start all over again. Some of the worlds I start on have a abundance of resources while others I have to really work at to get enough ore and wood.

Just write down the location of your starter world then you can go back as soon as you have enough fuel

I feel that many people need to read this: http://playstarbound.com/how-the-beta-is-going-to-work/

You have bought an unfinished game. You have implicitly agreed to experience game breaking bugs, frustrating crashes, unbalanced gameplay and spontaneous motherboard disintegration.

    Again, it's all here: http://playstarbound.com/how-the-beta-is-going-to-work/

If you're too lazy or incompetent to click the link:

If you choose to take part during stage 1 you should expect bugs, lots of balance changes, you shouldn’t get too attached to your character or universe as we may make changes that require you to start from scratch. You should expect the game to be broken at points as we make sweeping changes but you’ll get to enjoy exciting new content added constantly. The engine won’t optimized during this stage of the beta so performance could be poor on some low end machines.

    1. Find Gravity Bubble
    2. Hover above monster and laugh maniacally as they try helplessly to jump at you
    3. Slowly deliver pain upon them until satisfaction

Srsly now, screw armor at that point.X3

I actually had a gravity bubble, didn't really help against shooting enemies though, they were the bigger problem.

I personally feel like you guys should implement the updates so that a character reset wasn't necessary. Just remove items/stats that are no longer there, or update the existing ones. I don't care much if the world resets, but character resets do seem excessive and your should be able to do it without a reset. Just my two cents, as a fellow developer.

ME, myself has been experiencing a bug. when i go through my ship teleporter.. it teleports me back on my ship. and when i do it again, it teleports me back on my ship again. if i keep doing it, it will finally teleport me on the planet.. fix this please

Why bother? This update is about the balance of progression, and who better to test said progression than the people who have already been to the top? We know what to do, where to go, and what unreasonable struggles we had along the way.
Besides, why waste development time in beta trying to save everyone's stuff that's getting tossed out the airlock, so to speak?

Huh... I always just flew higher if something could potentially harm me. Let the music die down, descend, and carry on. :3

I was more trying to get into dungeons to look for loot that would help me out, decent weapons, and maybe some platinum bars to keep going through the gamma sector, since they only spawn in chests due to an oversight. Another big oversight that created this problem was that the previous end-tier armour was still 5 levels below what you'd need to survive the start of gamma, or the end of beta for that matter.

Frankly if you didn't want to lose your character you shouldn't be doing Beta Stage 1. From the START you were told that there would be character resets if you even bothered to read what was posted and if you missed it:

    Progenitor

Stage 1 will be move at a breakneck speed. This will be the buggiest and busiest stage of the beta. A bunch of unfinished features will be disabled whilst we finish them up. Updates will come thick and fast, sometimes as often as multiple updates a day.

You’ll get to see a bunch of ‘behind the scenes’ content at this stage and provide feedback during this crucial period.

DO take part in this stage if:

    - You enjoy testing buggy and unfinished code

    - You enjoy providing feedback

    - You want to leave your mark on the game

    - You just can’t wait any longer

DO NOT take part in this stage if:

    - Bugs infuriate you

    - You don’t like spoilers

    - You can’t stand losing your save <------------- this people, is what you were warned about.

    - You want the full Starbound ‘experience’ the first time you play.
