    Seems good to me. As part of phase 1 of beta, it is better to overhaul right now than later when it's way more complicated.

    As for biome diversity, will they remain the same? will jungles still be only in Beta sector?

    YESS! This is awesome and I am so glad you guys are doing things to smooth out the game balance. One thing that caught my attention is, if there are only going to be 10 "levels" of difficulty for worlds, 1 per sector, this will limit the variety of threat level on planets if all of the planets in the same sector are the same level. I hope you guys are already doing this but I'd suggest adding in threat levels for planets like Easy/Medium/Hard just like you are for monsters, to show the general difficulty of monsters found on that planet. That way there's still going to be noticeable variety when scanning the stars and picking where to go to next; maybe to start you just want a few close Easy planets, or a good mix!

    Broken items are turned into a Generic Item Block (Green 3D Cube required for some recipes.)

    Honestly, I'm having mixed feelings about this change. This sounds like simplifying the game's difficulty with shortening the number of levels by a lot. But then again I'm incredibly slow and haven't gotten off of my first planet.

    And now a first character wipe...that was quick. Oh well. :whistle:

    I think this has the potential to be very good early game for players but late game it could bring up a lack of diversity in enemy levels. I personally enjoyed the armor penetration system but It did need an update in a way as you were either very strong on some planets and extremely weak on others so hopefully now we will be set in a more even playing field on all planets or at least know what we are getting in to.

    When I bought the game, it was made very clear that character wipes would happen in the process of fine-tuning the game, so I've got no reason to complain.
    I do appreciate you giving us a couple of day's warning so we can prepare ourselves for the separation anxiety, though :)

    I'll save a screenshot of my character for nostalgia's sake, so that Petalpunch the Heavy Metal Floran Koto player will be forever remembered.

    Do whatever you need to do to make Starbound the epic game of your visions!

    The content is going to be expanded exponentially. Space Stations haven't even been added yet.

    Any thought of when Optimization will occur in the beta? Near the end? or middle? Just wondering because my computer isn't the best the game is still enjoying and playable just not as easy to dodge enemies, travel, etc...

    Am I the only one that actually prefers the current system?

    Optimization is always the last part of a game cycle. I wouldn't expect until end of Phase 1, or early Phase 2.

    I'm totally fine with this. I realize how Op the system is, since I managed to get a gold scythe, and why everything in harder sectors were oneshotting me like crazy, I could one shot them in return. Hopefully, this will make PvM more fair ^-^

    Will there be server optimizations coming also? It seems like there's a memory leak in the current version of the server software. (That, or it's just one hell of a hog at the mo)

    That's the point. Right now the game is balanced as if it's linear ARPG, not a sandbox exploration game. The progression of difficulty needs to be flattened to make exploration rewarding and the weapons and armor we loot or build rewarding. When the cool purple weapon you found becomes obsolete 15 minutes later because its armor pen is 2 levels below the planet's threat level, you don't feel very good about it. Now, it will be useful for the entire sector and even the early stages of the next one.

    I fear for the sense of progression with just 10 tiers, it would kinda reduce the excitement of going to a new planet, even if it has 'hard' monsters it kinda, loses the continuous reminder of HOW hard they are, as indicated by the monster level currently. A level 1 boss and a level 10 boss would be indistinguishable from a screenshot

    I'm actually quite happy about this change. I've adapted somewhat to the current system, but this change sounds like it will make things a lot more intuitive. I look forward to starting fresh and seeing how gameplay is different.

    Please release a fix for XP sometime before the update. I'd really like to be able to reliably play Starbound.

    I'm still the guy waiting to know if Space stations are coming, I'd always wanted to outfit one with a Orbital Ion cannon to fire and sear the planet surface from below in a tactical strike... That's one of many things that drew me to Starbound, but then again that may come along only once a lot of things have been worked on in beta.

    (I'd so love to build robots for Military or manual work force that does the gathering for me, building, managing... Or Military in a sense of Guard duty, patrol, follow the creator, Or stationary watch.)

    But over all, start over or not, this was amazingly fun. I do hope to look forward to more improvements, More additions, and more fixes.

    Personally I hope to see it become more optimized for Computers & Labtops as old as 2006. Now and then it crashes alot. When I play it on my Desktop, it rarely even crashes.

    I will severely miss the armor pen system, it felt unique that everything usually had 100hp but was stronger, i feel that systems the just give things massive amounts of hp but raise weapon damage are redundant. I understand that the armor pen system wasn't perfect but i feel it shouldn't be entirely thrown out. Looking forward to getting into my new character - RIP Firedrinker, the Floran.

    BTW anyone notice the purple Ladies Hat looks like a 'pimp' hat? :p
