I can kinda agree with this. I've had a few chances to play despite using XP, thanks to the single core trick, and while I do think there is a problem with how much the armor penetration system made most weapons either really good or really bad for the planet you were on, with almost no middle ground, IMO I think you could fit more than just ten planet levels in a system where monsters are directly improved from one planet to the next without the numbers going out of control and still have a noticeable difference between two planets a level apart. It just might not be 100 levels like before.

I just bought a 4-pack of this game, been playing vigorously. Pimped out my ship too. Also, thank you guys for constantly fixing/improving this game. One of my fave dev companies.

I think there should be at least 2 more levels for the mob difficulty Normal, Medium , Hard, Very Hard, hardcore., Reason I think the other two should be for special mob types such as guardians/champions/mini bosses and legendary/bosses.Would give more room to put mobs in different difficulty levels. That's what I think anyway. Would not mind if some of the more challenging bosses had armor/shields that did indeed need to be penetrated. However the armor/shield would degrade permanently. Would add to their difficulty or give ability to have ones with and without. The change sounds good because like Akira Toriyama found out, power levels can get so large they can become almost comical .

Not sure I agree with this. Going to a Level 1 planet to 7 was really satisfying, gave a reason to explore, greater challenge.
Wouldn't the same thing work keeping the 100 levels anyway?
Well, guess it can only be better anyway.
So is this going to mean there's a level 1 Easy/Medium/Hard planet idea going on?
Or just all Level 1 planets are the same in difficulty?

does wiping charcters mean wiping worlds? i think they should just wipe inventories but not building supplies and crafting benches ect.

I think the change sounds really good. Even if balance is not in a great place after the update, this should make adjustments much easier, and everything less incomprehensible/binary overall.

Cross posting from my Reddit comment; wanted to post here first, but the login system was under load:

Honestly, I feel this is kind of a cheap way out.

Currently, with the armor pen system the way it is, enemies can have a variance of 100 different difficulties. (Armor level 1-100.) With them decimating the planet levels, and reducing the enemy difficulties to easy/medium/hard, you're going to wind up with only 30 enemy difficulties (3 per planet level, planet levels only varying 1-10.)

Changing up armor pen to only use damage and scaling up enemy health reduces the variance that weapons can have in stats, with only a flat attack speed and flat damage, the only unique thing about a weapon will be the effect or bullet type.

These two major changes is going to leave the game feeling less "vast", while tackling in a big way what was only an armor problem. After the patch that fixed the UFO boss, Tier 1 armor was in a good place, with silver armor just being a level above the boss. Tier 2 armor was where the problem started. The armor values jump from 15 to 25, with nothing in-between. That leaves an entire 10 levels of planets that enemies could one-shot you before you found better armor.

Then there was the problem with platinum not spawning in order to craft that level 25 armor, leaving you in poor armor until you you hit level 30 planets and started finding platinum easier.

If they just rebalanced armor to not have that large, glaring gap between 15-25 either through a new armor set, or fixing the platinum generation then progression would have flowed a lot more smoothly. This entire rebalance of the game seems a tad unnecessary when a simple text tutorial explaining armor penetration would have left everyone a little less confused, and it's leaving the game in a third of what felt like a vast universe.

Sure, the actual number on the planet describing it's level really didn't change much in the world itself, but it was one more variable to help the world feel larger than it really is.

After adding a tutorial, fixing the broken armor tier by either adding a set or fixing platinum, the only thing that might have been improved was a way to compare two items to see on the fly when a lower-pen weapon might out-damage a higher pen. (Pen 40, Damage 8 < Pen 38 Damage 38, for example.)

I'm sure the game will play fine once everything is reworked the way they're doing it, but it really seems like they're removing a stain with lighter fluid as opposed to something simpler, and the feeling of vastness in the game is going to suffer for it.

Dunno, I was comfortable with the current system of 10 tiers with 10 levels each.
Hope the new system (10 tiers with 3 subtiers) is made in a way that it still gives us a similar variety in weapons and monsters
(and I hope that it doesn´t mean that we might find a "superweapon" on our starting planet and then won´t have tochange the weapon because it is sufficient for all planets in this sector, from the beginning to the end)

Please please please don't make this games difficulty any easier. My absolute favorite thing so far has been the myriad and impressive ways I've died. It is so much fun to load a new world, encounter your first monster and pray it's peaceful. Maybe it's just me, but the tension and challenge just fits so perfectly with the general atmosphere of the game. I would rather rely on skill, than farming.
I've been waiting for this game for at least a year, and it has delivered spectacularly. Thank you Chucklefish. Money well spent.

A small thing that would be cool is the ability to drop down platforms by just pressing down, instead of down and jump.

Except for how 10 sounds like less than 100, sounds like a good idea to me. It took a bit to get the hang of the current system (I too was utterly confused why my armor level didn't match the armor I was wearing) but the point of the beta is to iron out problems.

As happy as I am about these changes, I have to make a request because they don't ENTIRELY resolve the problem:

Can you make it so that the bosses do not serve as gatekeepers to the next sector and tier of items?

Let us visit any sector any time we want, obviously with more risk to ourselves.

Instead of having the bosses lock us out of the next tier of items, let us craft those items at any time. Have the bosses drop rare items, techs, blueprints, or materials to craft armor and weapons that we couldn't get any other way.

Bonus monster types might be a neat way to further differentiate planets, now that all the planets of a sector will have the same level. Maybe a planet might have some behemoth (or swarm) wandering the surface that you can pick up on ship senors and hunt for the challenge/rare loot.

Seems good to me. As part of phase 1 of beta, it is better to overhaul right now than later when it's way more complicated.

As for biome diversity, will they remain the same? will jungles still be only in Beta sector?

YES! this is just what it needed. because when I killed the tier 1 boss with full silver then went to a level 13 planet I was getting 1 shot and that was not fun.

Too bad Ill have to restart but hey thats beta for you and really idc ::V

Maybe somebody can help me better understand this :

I'm a bit confused about how things are going to work. So there are going to be only 10 levels now, one for each tier or is there going to be levels 1 to 10 but for each tiers individually ? If there are only 10 levels (1 for each tier), how are all the planets in one tier goint to differentiate from one another ? Will planets have the mention of "easy, medium hard" or will it simply be randomly generated on monsters of that planet ?

I kinda liked the feature that you coudn't go anywhere in the tier from the get go, hope it stays that way.

Other than that, I'm glad you guys are changing it, it will drasticly improve progression and gameplay !

Hmm that doesn't seem too bad. Although, I do need to ask. Does that mean the windows XP crashes are going to be pushed back with everything else in the update?

I'm so glad that you are balancing it this way. Well worth the wait, seeing as I get 1-shot-killed on level 21 planets where I 1-shot-kill everything.
