    In all honesty, would it be a good idea to invest in a character data porting utility now?

    That way, even during the beta, we can ensure that character content is retained -- that also means that players will be able to progress further and test more content, rather than being forced to repeat the same content over and over.

    I know I'll lose interest if I were forced to restart with each major update, especially considering the already abysmal progress I've made compared to others (only just recently cleared the UFO and second planet).

    As for use of the utility, this could be optional as well. That would allow players who WANT a fresh start to just let some data expire, while others could retain what they feel a bit more invested in. I understand that the feeling is "beta is beta", but it still feels like a really poor excuse.

    I'm okay with the character reset. Although I do hope this will also tend to the ghost ship duping glitch as well as the teleporter lock glitch (Beam off ship end up back on ship)

    But back on topic. 10 levels does seem a bit low, maybe 50 or at least 30, that way we know what we're getting into when we jump from a level 3 planet to a level 6 or a level 8 planet to level 10 ect.

    And for my last point. Can rebindable keys be added? at least for the hotkeys, I'm sure there are a few others who'd agree that it'd be nice. (In game or config file, both work)

    That's about all I have to say on the matter as it is. The system works so far.

    That's why I said a difficulty slider will most likely be implemented, to satisfy people like you, me, and everyone else.

    No you are missing the point, I am done trying to get you to the point, is already harder planets in the game, just go to one, no need of a damn dumb slider.

    Hmmm... I'll trust you guys right now. I really like going from a level 1 to a level 2 then 3 or 4, etc planet right now and progressing slowly but still having a ton of fun and stretching the experience out. I'm sure that this update won't break that very much but I still have my concerns. With the over simplification I am worried that the game while being capable of being just as long, will feel like there is less progression and in turn it will be easier to get through or accidentally zip through content much more quickly. I just felt that the levels of planets made the game seem exponentially larger and gave a good indication of where you could go and when based on your current gear.

    My only real hope is that you guys don't make the game a hand holding experience. I REALLY enjoy the difficulty that comes from fighting large packs of monsters and having to constantly dodge attacks lest die a fiery or crushing death and having to parkour your way through an avian temple to avoid all of their bullets.

    Still half on subject - I think that some of the "dungeons" like the sewer dungeon need to have some sort of reward at the end and some of them (like the sewer dungeon for example) and also increase the difficulty for things like the sewer dungeon and the one that is under the metal pyramid and has all of the floating crystals that can break for pixels. I could go on and on about my opinions for what I want changed but I'll digress for now and wait to see what comes in a few days. Good work and don't disappoint. No pressure! haha

    Sounds Great! i also had a hard time figuring out the armor-damage system. For weapons i used this made-up formula:
    [ ( damage ) x ( attack speed ) ] + ( armor penetration ) = Stabby effectiveness
    I doubt that's the perfect way to calculate it, but at least it gave me the illusion of understanding what i was doing :iswydt:


    Also, i don't mind waiting until the final final update, months from now, once all issues have been addressed (specially mac and XP compatibility), but PLEASE PLEASE try to get some time to add BEARDS to humans!! PLEASE! :sparta:

    @NewBorn: How much will the existence of a slider that you don't use impact your enjoyment of the game?

    @Exon: How much will having to spend the first 10 minutes of the game finding an ideal planet impact your enjoyment of the game?

    Couldn't they just hotfix the Windoes XP problem instead of including it in this big patch? from what I know, it seems to be done.

    sliders give choice, the game already has the choice, hardness is already in the game by different planets, if you want to spawn... get stuff.. go straight to a hard planet, then so be it do it... but adding a dumb slider in the mix is useless, stupid, and not needed, hardless already exists in the game, only difference is, it's not on damn slider!

    Hmm... I don't get it, don't people like NUMBERS? I like numbers.... I wouldn't mind if there were 1000 planet levels, monster levels and if my weapons dealt a million damage towards the end of the game. The way this works is... "Yup, I'm lvl 1, I do 20 damage.", followed by "Yup, I'm lvl 100, I do 20 damage." Kind of darn anticlimactic isn't it?
    Lowering levels to 10 will make it all seem kind of... bland? I think it will lack the feeling of progression it has now.
    100 is a good number for levels, but why shy away from high damage values? Isn't that where the feeling of power comes from in a game like this?

    Personally I kinda like the current system with all the levels, complex armor systems and steep learning curve. Then again I also enjoy dwarf fortress so I'm not quite the average player in that regard.

    Adding my own thoughts - initially starting the game on my starting planet was indeed a bit difficult. Level 1 weapon and armors that were already out-ranked by the level 2+ enemies I would encounter, I was already at a huge disadvantage. This changed as I learned how to fight and began finding ore and such (as well as learning about bandages), but I have to agree it was a pretty steep curve up to that point even if it was a quick one.

    Hopefully this new system will help balance that out. I look forward to it :)

    This gentleperson (and others before who expressed similar opinions) has a point.

    Something like this would be extremely welcome. I hope it will be implemented later, either to be available from the start or maybe via a ship sensor upgrade.
    Speaking of ship sensors, a function which allows surface mapping might also be interesting.

    We can just hope that they will see it and hopefully do it because think that most of the people with this issue want to play and we are still just wanting for that to be fixed

    While I agree with the proposal to add further information to the planet screen, I wouldn't add too much information on it.

    Exact temperatures e.g. may add extra depth the game and enrich the immersion, but you'd have to make sure that the randomly generated information "fits". If you don't, you might end up having snow planets with gas planet temperatures, thus hindering emmersion.

    Maybe a resource scan should only be possible while beeing in orbit, so you have to invest time and fuel to find stuff :)

    I second that post.
    Also, I love the beta so far. Multiplayer works very well for my group, and i haven't played till 3am in the morning in a long time.

    I agree completely. While it's not a big deal to have to search for an "ideal" planet, it would be cool to just find a new planet in the sector you're currently geared for and go, not having to worry about the threat level of the planet. I think these changes are an excellent idea, and can't wait to try it out!

    Bring on the change! and resets :D
