but you're missing the whole point, tell me why they need to remove all the planet levels? they could simply just tweak it to fit each planet, removing levels is not needed, they only done it so it was easy and fast.... that's it.. and easy and fast wasn't valid reason to change the game the reason I bought it for in the first place, the amour system, level system whatever.. it can all be tweaked to meet the demands of the 1-100 system, nothing needed to be changed but tweak.

I just hope they stop with the wiping and add more stuff for underground digging / spelunking, as it is, the caves are rather boring ( ゚,_ゝ゚)

    You could up
grade to 7 which has more benefits. but to be honest the stack trace errors are so frequent the game doest stay up for long anyway.

Read the post about 5 posts up. Clearly lays out the general reasoning for it. Though also, we still have no clue exactly HOW they are going to do it with planet levels and they can easily come up with a different solution over the weekend or wind up keeping it how it is as far as world level display goes but with some other indicator as well as level. I would recommend waiting and seeing what the change is and how you feel about it when they are testing it before getting up in arms about it.

I agree with most of the changes here, i go from having a 28 damage starting sword to a 25 w/ 5 armor pen and I'm a insta-killing machine? Cant wait for the change

it doean't matter what the reason is, that's the whole point I am trying to make, everything can fit around the 1-100 system, doesn't matter about weapon damage, or insta killed by mobs with good gear, 1000 other reasons.. and I can't say this enough IT CAN BE TWEAKEDDDD!!!!.... devs can alter it where it's needed... hence in no core game play change, that's the point I am trying to make doesn't matter about the armour pen, or rating or weapon DPS, IT CAN BE TWEEEEKEDDDDD... and if they do decide to go along with this change, sure ill try it out... but if I hate it.. I will make my voice heard.

not possible, you should of read the thing they posted about the stages... stage 1 means if you don't care about wipes and your in it for feed back and shaping the game.... then play it, if you do care about wipes don't play.. you sound like stage 2-3 kinda guy.

Guys, this game is still in beta (it hasn't even been out very long.) I know you think you've made a lot of progress, but you knew going in that your character would be deleted several times over as development continues. Don't get too attached, remember?

I have mixed feelings about this. im afraid limiting these huge sectors with tons of planets to only 10 levels will make exploration of the universe very limited and pointless. I mean whats the point of all these planets if your only gonna need to explore 10 of them? I guess some of this can be adjusted with tonns of quests and achivements as long as they are rewarding enough but please be careful to not to take away the fun of exploring and discovering. I for one enjoy slow phased games that takes months to complete or reach a end game. anywas good work guys. will be fun and interesting to test out these changes;)

Is the bug with spaceships fixed?
    * You can travel to your current destination by just pressing "GO"
    * Teleportation beam on ship sometimes doesn't work (Noticed it on Avian ship)

Why not show Green/Yellow/Red in the context of how hard the monster is to *YOU* the player? That would make it a lot easier to determine if you should run like hell or not.

    Warning: Wall of Text

First some things I need to get off of my mind:

-> To everyone complaining about having their characters wiped: It's what you signed up for, stop complaining. Nobody cares about all the awesome stuff you found. This might sound harsh, but at this stage of the Beta nothing can be guaranteed, and Chucklefish profits from people replaying the entire game multiple times, so they can form a precise opinion about changes.

-> To everyone else complaining about Tiy's post: Keep it up.
Constructive criticism is what Team Chucklefish needs above all else.

Now to address the actual topic:

Complexity is good, too much complexity isn't.

The upcoming change that will restructure the 100 threat levels to 10 sectors may sound like the destruction of the exploration theme, but remember: We're only talking about enemy difficulty.

This brings me to my main complaint with Starbound as it stands. While the game is incredibly fun, and the base structure is very well made, it still lacks variety.

The world engine is powerful, but at the moment, it's mainly cosmetics. The good thing about this is that it gives Chucklefish a strong place to expand upon.

Now to my suggestion, and also to comfort the people that think the game is heading in the wrong direction:

As I've already said, enemy difficulty is currently the only thing that really differentiates one planet from another (together with temperature, but this mechanic is somewhat flawed at the moment).

This is a mockup screenshot I came up with:

The "Threat Level" of the planet would depend upon it's differing parameters (Enemy Strength, Temperature, Gravity, Day / Night Cycle time (Perpetual Night?), Weather, maybe more?)
As you can see, there are quite a few modifiers that would differentiate this planet from others, and these shouldn't be too hard to work into the current world generation engine.

This would also address another issue that players currently have with the game: DIFFICULTY.

In my mock-up, this planet, classified as a very dangerous planet, has a much higher resource yield than a low threat planet, making this a risk vs reward choice.
People looking for a more casual experience will be able to play at their own pace, gathering resources and slowly preparing for the next sector. Nobody is forcing you to visit dangerous planets.
Players looking for a hardcore experience will need to stay alert every waking minute, fighting for their lives while they alleviate the planet of it's plentiful resources (due to higher yield).

This could also be seamlessly worked into starting difficulty, if people want a more hardcore experience: Let them choose a difficulty at character creation, which decides what threat level they spawn on.

Mechanics like damage, armor and health still play a major role in such a system, but this is all I could come up with in a short amount of time, I'm sure Chucklefish can do much better! :)

TL;DR: Don't worry so much about the loss of threat levels, there are many more ways to make planets unique besides a simple number like enemy strength.

PS: I apologize for any grammar errors, English isn't my native language.

    Edit: Grammar :I
