by the looks of it, quite a few people doesn't like it, at the same time some would like to change it, but in my opinion this is a space travel game etc, having all those planet levels feels good, and gives me tons of levels to explore, but downgrading it so low to 10 level planets.... meh ... ... that's a beta for you, people complain, devs listen, change game.... some players leave cause it's not what they paid for, aka road map, some stay cause they enjoy it... in the end it's a beta and players will drop lower for whatever reason, like someone doesn't enjoy the new system some might leave.... that's a beta for you, it can change so much.. so much plans can be removed and redesigned.. hope they wont change core of the game that much.

could you maybe just put an 'outdated' mark on the old saves?
or put a version numer in the later saves to do this in preparation for the next update?
in this way you've propably the chance to transfer items or convert it later

No, I feel they're getting lazy? instead of offering the whole point of the game 1-100 levels they assume downgrading 1-10 will be easier to balance, cause they cannot be bothered balancing 1-100 planets, in my opinion they should stick to the road map 98% of the time, the extra 2% is basically tweaking the game with out changing the core game and leaving it as planned.. with maybe the odd added content like some new things to explore.. exploring is the main point of this game, and changing 1-10 levels just lowers the explore level for me.

It would be really nice if each race would have a minor bonus for their traits without any special armor, and the armor would work as a "boost".

(ex. The Hylotl could hold breath a little bit longer underwater, and with armor could breathe underwater.)

This would make each race more unique and fun to choose.

No they should not. They should focus their development efforts on getting content out to the beta and experimenting with different mechanics so that Version 1 is nice and balanced. Spending development time getting a build working on a massively outdated OS that is going to lose security updates early next year is NOT contributing to that goal.

Yes before version 1 the time must be wasted because the dev team was dumb enough to say XP will be supported at game launch. However until then there are far bigger priorities.

I don't know....I'm glad the damage system will be revamped and so, but dismissing the monster and planet levels? That makes the game lose some of it's "wow" factor. Universe where planets can be rated from 1 to 100 feels much much larger than a small scale from 1 to 10. And not only that, it also makes me want to explore it less. M'kay, I explored a few planets from 1 to 10 and encountered monsters both easy and hard, is that all? When there are more levels of both planets and enemies the feeling completely changes. I've seen snow planet at level 2, I wonder how it will feel on level 18.

I understand this is beta and the game will change a lot. I understand devs need to find their way how to polish certain aspects and concepts. I don't understand why dumb the game down because the current system needs tune and repair. Devs, please don't throw the levels away. For many people it's little numbers like these that make us feel we are in overwhelmingly big universe.

I have an idea to keep the penetration rule.

If the monster is generated it should get an armorrating wich is 1/2 of the planet level itz generated 4. maybe with a little bit of randomising.

For example: Planet lvl 22 -> Monster gets Planet level/1.8 = 12.2 armor. This could be randomized to keep it ... random ? ( maybe by 0.3 +/- = this willl end up in "tanked" Monsters and "thin skinned" monsters )

Weapons generated on planets get an armor penetration value by Planet lvl/2.2 ( maybe randomized by 0.1 +/- )

For example: Planet lvl 22 -> Axe gets 10 penetration value and 30dmg (maybe - no clue about dmg that far)

SO if we hit our monster with our axe my dmg will be reduced by the half difference between this values in %.
The full defference would be 18% ( wich is to high in my opinion . thats why it should be reduced by half - 9% )

    30 - 9% = 27.3 dmg.

    -----------------------------------------

On the other side , if your penetration is higher than targes armor this could be used to gain a dmg boost by 25% of its base difference in %.

    what do you think ?

Also I kind of want to reply to everyone who is posting negativity towards the dev team because of XP/Mac issues, character wipes, and rebalancing: Deal with it. It's all part of beta - they are working on it. They are kind enough to put up with a whole lot of whining to get the little bit of valuable feedback they receive during beta, and they are STILL happy to let us participate. There should not be negativity towards them. If you don't like a change or would like to give your feedback - do so in a calm manner. If you just whine you will be ignored. A lot of people here are acting like spoiled children!

A huge amount of whining about the level changes seem to be based in ignorance. If you don't understand it, don't complain about it. Read the dev posts completely. They are not removing ANY content; the new level system sounds like what amounts to a relabelling of planets and sectors to make each one much clearer for the player. Exploration hasnt changed at all!

While I finally understood the armor pen system, and found it a really interesting way to set combat in motion, I do think this system will end up being better. I was moments away from posting in the suggestions thread after in tier two I realized some glaring problems with the combat system. Checked the main page and bam, you're already on top of it (See my PS to what I WOULD have suggested before reading your post).

I am also glad that you will do a wipe. We can't test the progression properly unless we're forced back to square one. I only hope the difficulty doesn't get toned down too much. At tier 2 the difficulty really ramps up to unfun toughness (you one shot them, but they one shot you) while in alpha sector the difficulty just felt better. Challenging, but not anti-fun. I just don't want an easy mode game I can burn through in a day.

I am delighted at how quickly you guys are churning out content and updates and hope that this trend continues. This game is just fantastic on so many levels and there are so many opportunities for additional content that you could make this game last for years! I will add one suggestion, which I'm not even sure if is already planned or not, but incentivize colonizing a "Home" planet. Make us want to pick that "perfect" planet and colonize and grow whatever civilization we chose. Give us a reason to make a planet our own, create beautiful works of art and structures on the surface to share on the forums and with other players. As it sits right now there's no real reason to make a "home" on any given planet besides aesthetics (terraria's function for this was the NPC system). We can just make a mobile "lab" of crafting structures on our ship. (come to think of it, I will have to elaborate on this thought and make a post on the suggestions forum for a future update!).

And for the curious as to what my suggestion was going to be:

PS.: I hope this fix really goes the extra mile I think it will. Jumping planets 1 level at a time is tedious and I was going to suggest something along these lines:

ex.: Planet level 20 currently seems to only drop, and spawn in shops, weapons that are armor pen 20 as well. This only left the ability to hit for "true" damage, enemies on those level 20 planets during the day. My suggestion was to simply allow these shops, and the monsters, to drop armor pen 21-26 weapons so that you feel you really upgraded and can go try and tackle more challenging planets. That would have avoided Jumping to the hardest level planets in your sector, finding level appropriate weapons, get the top level armor, then spawning the boss and jumping to the next sector and repeating. We want to explore damnit! MAKE US!

For those that like the current system, do you really really really like how MOST of the items you find are instant trash for the ONLY reason being the armor penetration level is 2 or 3 levels below? The balance needs to happen otherwise 90% of everything you find is just instant junk based on one number factor and that greatly LIMITS item usage and potential. I have gone through planets full of weapons just trashing them only because the armor penetration level was 1 or 2 below my current weapon and even though they might have had cool effects such as Poison or Fire they would just not be viable at all so instant trash.

I have no issues with doing what needs to be done to make the game a better experience for all. SO keep up the great work and keep the updates and content coming. No issues with a character reset at all. After all it IS Beta!

after updates level 1 content still needs to be tested... so if everyone was at end content (or later content take your particular wording how you will) who would show the earlier content some love and test it?

people are getting mixed up..... 1-100 planets are not the problem, nor are mob levels, all they had todo was tweak mobs/loot drop.. etc... you what I am saying? You don't have to change big part of the game cause they can tweak it to fit? there just doing this so it's easier to balance.

That can be fixed by rebalancing the damage reduction/bonus values between different armor values, though. There's no need for a complete revamp like that.
