Just remember your audience. It's an exploration game. Humans in general live for the unknown. As long as you don't spoon feed them they will love the game. Uncertainty is key. Don't take away armor completely. At the least, let it surprise someone when something is armored with an audible 'clink' noise or visible indicator under their health. It adds a whole new spectrum to the game: anti-armor element or armor-break debuff. As far as armor as a level indicator, not so great in my opinion. I also don't understand how there can be only 10 levels. Does that mean I'm going to come across something extremely overpowered on a level 1 planet? Just confused there.

Last thing with the daggers, I love them as they are. In Terraria I NEVER used daggers or any sort of consumable weapon because they were so weak that using your starting bow or something was far more efficient. Here it seemed like a real treasure to find 5 powerful throwing daggers. It also felt cool. I actually felt the need to use them. Bravo on that part. I hope you guys don't make them as weak as a gun of the same level, because then why not just use the gun? Don't make consumables equal your level because consumables should be more powerful than something that isn't consumable. It sounds obvious when said out loud. To scale things up in level just make harder planets drop stronger daggers of some kind, like ballistic knives or circus knives. Just a thought.

All I've read from the blogpost is changes to the level system and the damage calculation. I'd love to see those changes, but there's no word on making enemies more predictable and by extension, huntable. Currently, it's very hard for an early-game player to hunt monsters because not only do they move at incredible speeds, jump to immense heights and attack instanteously on sight (oftentimes from offscreen on smaller displays/window sizes), the hunting bow also has a significantly lower DPS than your starter sword. Will this be addressed in the coming update or a near-future patch? I suggest a short standing-still phase for hostile monsters where they roar at you, with a distinct visual (Exclamation Mark?) when they spot you. Also, there should be some way to show a nearby monster's name/healthbar/(hostility?) without attacking it.

    Really enjoying the beta guys!

Just to add my 2 cents.

I'd like to add my voice to those against going from 1-100 to 1-10. My worry is that by doing this there will be little need to explore other planets. It currently really helps progression as you need to visit a few planets before you are prepared for beta sector. Otherwise when you have 'finished' the first planet the rest of alpha sector won't be a challenge and it detracts from the exploration experience.

So if 1-100 must go, there definitely should be an easy/normal/hard/very hard threat level or similar.

I agree that AP needs work so no problem with this change or any of the others.

as I said before, Combat fixed good, but changing the planet levels... in my opinion not good... games in beta's scare me, cause they can change so much.. when I first heard about starbound, and the level 100 planets I jumped at the game.. cause I like to explore, armour up.. now I wont feel inclined to explore as much.. maybe quit all together? only wanted the game cause it was some what different.. not so sure now.

This is all well and good, but if you guys could prioritize fixing the issue where I can't even play the game at all on my mac, that'd be super

First post - Just saw the news update and wanted to post my support! You guys are doing exactly what you should be to make the game better! Sometimes ideas have to be rethought and redesigned well after implementation if they don't work quite right. Sounds like you guys have your game design heads screwed on right. I havent had this much confidence in a game dev in a while! Glad I took a risk and pre-ordered at a higher teir!

Oh yeah - Starbound has taken my free time nonstop since beta started. Keep up the good work!!

I think the character wipe is great. It encourages me to play another race this time and maybe play differently. If you're someone who complains, it's your own fault for putting so much into it during beta. They warned us all for character wipes before release, and it's something that might become necessary (obviously).

a armor scaling system isnt terribly needed in a game of this type, plus its confusing.

that being said, if some enemies were resistant to projectiles and some resistant to melee, that would be ok. as long as you had a way to tell early on, maybe when you use the magnifying glass over an enemy one of the things it can say is whether it looks resistant to ranged or melee, or to neither

I liked this until I saw the character reset thing...Meh...Also am I the only one who feels that its FAR too hard to find useful things in the game? Like, all the stuff from chests are sorta useless? (where are, at the very least, FUN weapons or tech items? Most weapons are crappy tiered junk, literally!) That along with the stuff TIY was addressing are in my opinion, the biggest issues with the game atm. (I'm not reading anything else in this topic)

planet levels are fun, it gives the feeling of vastness in the universe, but changing it from 1-10.. just makes me feel.. Meh... only thing that needs tweaking was the mobs.. nothing more.

When these beta forums are meant for feedback and bug reports and every couple posts there is another XP patch demander. There are already threads made for this and once is enough, they know and they've seen it. It's drowning out the quality posts. You get the game crash free with XP when the game is put out at release, anytime before that is them being generous. Did you read the post about what phase 1 of the beta would be like? Crashes and character wipes. If you don't want them wait until later. Tiy said it loud and clear. Patches take time, when you report a bug it doesn't just instantly get fixed. They said they are working on it but there are still endless people demanding a fix right this second.

Calm yourself. It is perfectly normal for them to be bouncing back and forth between extremes during testing. It is going to be a long and eventful beta period and I highly doubt the finished product will be remotely similar to how it is right now.

oh yeah, I have been in beta's before, and I am sure my feedback is allowed? sure everyone can agree with them, or disagree, they pretty much went from the game feeling endless... to hardly anything, they lowered the levels so much, that they can remove armour pen, but I enjoyed the system.

thats part of what they are trying to balance, so that when you find a weapon in a chest its worth even considering, not automatically worse than the one you crafted. balancing loot locations is also part of balancing
