Sounds like a bold rebalancing! I can't wait to try it out and compare it to the current one.

Random suggestion: return the starter pixel costs for gear to the high values they were originally, but increase the pixels you get from those little white pods by a factor of 3-5 to compensate. The pods give like 6 pixels each right now which is barely worth the trouble of opening them, and certainly doesn't give the intended reaction of "YAY pods!"

Actually, I got a small concern about the new damage system...

The beauty of the one you had now was that most enemies and yourself included had exactly 100 hit points. This made it very easy to know if you could survive 2 or 3 or 4 attacks from a certain enemy at a glance (if they dealt over 50, 33, or 25 damage respectively) You could then know if you had to run or if you could keep fighting, or if the next hit you landed would be the one that dealt the final blow, etc.
Without you nor monsters having the same HP maximum of 100, this becomes significantly harder to do. The player's HP bar isn't up to this task because it's too small to notice during a fight.

Would it be possible to make it more noticeable? Perhaps having it change colour at the 1/2 and 1/4 points, or! Since the player will likely suffer the same attack they just suffered previously. Maybe have a warning beep sound if the player has less life than the amount of damage they just suffered? This would communicate to the player that if they suffered another blow, they would die, and give them the warning they need to either flee or take shelter.

edit: You could probably even take it a little further. Like a less urgent beep for when the same attack causes more damage than half the HP you'd have left afterward. So you know it'd kill you after 2 hits. Which would be a lot more warning to the player

Anyway! Sorry for all the ideas! Just throwin' stuff out there! Thanks for lookin if you did!

could we get a better space navigating system? e.g. finish the zoom in/out thing in the bottom right corner that doesn't do anything, and maybe add some sort of history thing like a browser history, except instead of browsing websites it's browsing planets

I`m very happy with this, it seems like when you get new gear its only good for one lvl of planets and most of the time you have to go to a higher lvl of planets to get what you need. and you just get hit one or two times and you are dead. Platinum spawns do not spawn tell like lvl 38 planets you have to find it in a chest so it seems not to be right at all.

I'd love to see a planet bookmarking system, with the ability to add descriptions. "Rad Glitch town here." etc.
Also, I'm glad the combat is getting a rework. It can be a little frustrating, determining what weapon is best.

EDIT: Will this mean legendary weapons are less useless, then, too? Because as of now, all the ones I have are god awful.

To all the people whimpering about the wipe, I understand your pain. However, the devs warned about it. You should take it in stride as being privileged enough to play the game in its development state. Lastly, for what its worth, thank you devs for your hard work. Each and every player here appreciates it!

So if the sector levels are going from 100 to 10 and each weapon will be useful for the entire sector you found it on, then why should I bother changing weapons?

Will it just be a case of me going straight from my starting weapon to making/getting the best weapon in the sector and ignoring the other 20 weapons?

Heck if I can go into the third sector and grab a weapon from there and take it back to the first sector... I can just ignore every weapon in that sector? Kinda spoils it I think.

Great news! One-shotting and getting one-shot isn't too fun either way and this will make the game a lot clearer too. Since you guys are moving to this system could I suggest comparison colors of green if it's better in a category and red if it's worse? I think this would be really nice. Looking forward to the changes!

Dude chill out. The Dev team is working hard as hell to pump this game out properly. Occasionally, when a beta starts up, a team has to account for early problems. They shouldn't have to account for whiny little entitlement society children. So relax, a fix will be out soon.

I'm sorry but... this is a TERRIBLE IDEA and should not be implemented

I love the ChuckleFish. So far the beta has been running smoothly. You guys are doing an amazing job. The game is amazing.

But reading through your post I was just thinking... "This is a huge mistake." I thought people in the thread would be saying the same thing I was thinking... Nope... I don't get why this is getting so much praise.

Your system works great as is. You are listening to the wrong people. The people that like the current system aren't posting. Yes the armor penetration it hard thing to understand... at first. But once you see how it works you get this big oooooohhhhhhh moment. It isn't hard at all. I'm sure everyone that was confused an't any more.

There are huge gaping problems with this change that, I guess, everyone is not seeing.

-Knowing that every planet is the same difficulty in each sector gives you no reason to travel to other planets within the sectors.
With this change progression within the sectors will feel slow and will be boring. With no reason to fly to new planets for higher level gear the grind will become dull.
Right now players test their limits by going to the highest threat level planets that they can to get the better gear. You are removing that from the game completely.

-Knowing that you are safe against every monster on the surface seems boring.
The uncertainty you have when flying into a new planet is good. You don't know if you will be able to live or not. Uncertainty is what drives the game.
There is a fear you have in the current game. When you come across a new monster. You don't know if the monster will attack you or not. You don't know if it will do a lot of damage or not. That fear is good. It makes the game better.
If the surface is too hard for you now then go back to an easier planet.

I think most people will very much disagree about the current system.
As it stands you DO know if you are safe against every monster on the surface, if your armor level is above 16 and weapon penetration is about 16 you KNOW anything 16 and under is going to be super duper safe, THAT is boring. You also know that that 16 def armor and 16 penetration weapon is going to be totally and utterly useless on level 18+ planets and your old armor and weapons will be completely useless as if you had no armor or weapons at all in the current system.

I definitely see what you're saying. However, in Terraria - you were able to access every ore in the game (until 1.2), with one single world. In Starbound, it's required to switch sectors and planets to find the more valuable tiered ore. I was led to believe that higher threat levels in the same sector also meant higher rewards. Higher risk, higher reward. You could alleviate that risk by creating or finding gear that was intended for your respective sector on a lower TL planet, and then explore the higher TL planets.
It promotes planet exploration within the sector, outside of gathering resources. It created even more diversity.

I know that this doesn't 'remove' content, but I felt as though the 're-scaling' wasn't necessary. It needs a better implementation in my opinion.

When it comes down to it, I'll be happy either way. I just feel (and I may be wrong) there's a more reasonable approach to keep the former system's intentions, as I do prefer the idea of where it was heading (without armor pen).
