Hello! I've decided to post a thread all about Starbound biomes! Well, actually, not really about them, more a kind of showcase. I will make illustrations of each world with a short description/caption at the bottom. The list of biomes I will make follows as shown (in order of posts): - Ice/Snow/Glacier - Grassland/Plains - Fire/Lava/Volcano - Ocean/Water - Radioactivity/Pollution/Poison - Light/Pure (yes, I know it's cliched but I had to put it in there) - Evil/Dark (once again, cliched) - Urban/Metal/City - Strange/Penguins/Mushrooms/Squid (don't ask) - Sand/Desert - Forest/Overgrown I will also take requests for biomes. You will need to add as much detail as possible in your comment. As a first biome, Ice, I am quite happy with how this picture turned out. The quality is better when not uploaded directly to the forum. Requests: -Dead: In progress Ice: Cold and icy (as you would expect) not many creatures inhabit this world. Those that do are generally hidden, as to conserve warmth. Someone has crash landed their ship, and having no form of communication, set up camp. Grass: A beautiful sun is setting over the plains of our grassy world. Agile and large creatures roam the meandering outskirts of the plains. You can see the ship and the space traveller's silhouettes on the horizon. Volcano: A river of lava runs from a volcano dominant over jagged, rocky peaks parallel to the magma flow. Like the Ice world, this land is unforgiving and harsh. Our ship flies overhead in the volcanic smog. Ocean: Two giant waves crash side by side while overhead our ship flies through a serene greenish haze. In the Ocean world, life about the water is non existent. Life, however, below the waves, is plentiful.
Oop, I found it. Looking good, and I'm looking forward to seeing the penguin planet and the radioactive one!
Woah... These are awesome. I really didn't expect you to be able to use this style, but you can do it perfectly, which makes the landscapes look awesome! I can't wait to see the metal/city biome/planet in your style. I'm curious how you'll pull it of, because I think you can make it look beautiful
I would love to see a biome where the upper layer is a wasteland (fallout-ish) due to a hostile invasions from another species x years ago... and when you venture underground you find the previous inhabitants-- and they can wear cloaks and be all aloof and suspicious!
Once again, thank you Bamseper and Maplestrip! And Dead, by top layer, do you mean a foreground, background or do you want some sort of set out where it shows two layers? Otherwise it is very do-able.
Oh sorry! I completely forgot that "layers" have a different meaning to artists I mean the surface of the planet.
I'm sorry. Sometimes I don't express myself very well sometimes. Let's start over I think it would be pretty cool if there was a biome that had a nuclear-wasteland on the surfice (like fallout! ) Then then you travel beneath the surfice of the planet, you can meet survivors or descendents of the survivors of whatever caused that big mess in the first place.
Don't we all love "layers" ;p The idea isn't bad, and if you're gonna draw everything anyway, I'd say, give it a shot
The newest is hot! (obvious pun) my fav is still the sunset, but I think you made the flow of lava really nice. At first sight, it doesn't look like much, but when you look at it for even a few seconda, you'll notice everything is right
I noticed that not many liked the Ice world as much as the others, but that is the world with the largest colour overlay. That is interesting. It gives me a tip for drawings in the near future.
A new drawing! I'm affraid I must agree with you though, the ocean isn't my favorite either. The water looks really good, but I just don't like the bright green atmosphere. It was also impossible to see what it was if you didn't read the text first, unlike the others. I still like it more than the iceworld, though... I have no idea what it is eith that image, but I just don't find it appealing. I'd guess it would be because of the not matching colors, but you probably have a better idea on whats going on in that drawing. I'm pretty sure it's the ocean blue + toxic green combination I don't like about the ocean, though... That, and it looks too two-dimentional. The water coloms all look like they're right next to eachother.
For those who noticed the water pic is gone, I posted it, then felt I had rushed it. So a new pic of the Ocean world should be on later today.
