It's me again, Ace Vortex, your typical enthusiastic suggester. The title is self explanatory, like most titles are. With safes or chests you'll probably need some form of security, that's where combinations locks come in handy, they disallow people to steal your stuff. To start of with, when you have a combination lock, you'll have to place it above the item you want to protect, it will then show up a GUI of 4 slots to put your selected combination in. When you have selected them, press the 'OK' and you're done. Whenever you want to open up your locked up item, you can simply right click it and the same 4 slots will appear, then you'll have to press the arrow keys above and under each slot to create the number that you made the combination lock open to. Easy concept, right? Of course this will only work in Multiplayer unless of course there are enemies that actually try to steal your chest loot but that's not really needed to go into detail about. And last of all, another add-on which would be cool is a range of different combination locks that go 5 slots, 6 slots or even 7, but this is just optional since the combination would probably have to be written down to remember. Thanks. And if this were implemented, my combination would obviously have to be 1337 or 9001.
I think this suggestion would be nice. It would add a level of security, but still be possible to bypass with luck. And I wonder how many times I will guess someones password as 1337 or 7331... >:D
Thanks for the support, Brite! And that's not a bad idea Doodle, I might add that in the thread some time, along with some elaboration, even if there's not much to elaborate on.
Rather then be specific to each item, why not make it a place-able module that you can wire in to different objects? all objects attached would be unbreakable by everyone but the person who placed it. This makes it possible to have whole bases wired up to an access code.
Yes, yes, and yes please. The last thing I want is some merry band of griefers stealing all my uber loot. A lot of locks can feel pretty "cheap" and impossible to get by, but if you could guess at the code, that might be pretty cool. However, if it was just numbers and a 4-digit code, I'd just go around spam-guessing people's stuff until I got in Maybe it could have a lockout mechanism that notifies the player the lock belongs to that someone's trying to hack into their locks and prevents further meddling? So basically a lock AND a security device...
This is a great idea, so simple yet effective! I'd love to store all my goodies using my Bank Account Pin Code! But, everyone is obviously going to have the same code, for everything!!... 01110011 01110100 01100001 01110010 01100010 01101111 01110101 01101110 01100100
This kind of thing (protective item storage) has actually been solved in the past by player-specific storage devices. Like the Ender Chest in Minecraft and the Piggy Bank/Safe in Terraria. Just sayin'. That's a more sure-fire protection method.
Or you could just set who could open it... If there was a code you'd have to do the code every time you tried to open it. Imagine how annoying that would be.
Great idea! I wish they had this for Terraria. Mabey you caan even put locks on doors to make ultra secure safe rooms for ye' booty.
Who knows, it could also be a combination of specific keycards. Like if you have a guild/outfit/ whatever it may be called in Starbound, and you guys need to access the emergency muffins. Everyone would require to put in their keycards in a specific order. HAHAHAHA! NO ONE will steal my muffins now! Now to get 02's keycard...
i like this idea, even if its not fool proof, what is? i mean if it was a player specific storage area, someone could steal your stuff that you had not put in a player specific storage area, and put it in their own. also if it were fool proof, it would take all the fun out of defending your base with elaborately thought out, and very deadly traps. Code locks must be implemented!!
Oh great. This is a good idea, but if this gets implemented, I feel bad for the thousands of people who'll lose all their stuff by a simple password slip...
