Colour is not a spelling mistake, it's the British/Canadian spelling. Like neighbour vs neighbor or labour vs labor.
im pretty sure everyone is aware of that, its got to do with how phonetics works, without the accent of the british, the "u" becomes redundant, so it was dropped. request: seek out the words "neighbour labour" etc and take the excess "u" there as well please
But if you change 'colour' to 'color', doesn't that mean you should address every Britishy word into an Americani word? xD
