Hello all! I have a question about setting up my colony.

I started building basically a skyscraper that I wanted to use for my colony. A large building where everyone could live. It would be magnificent! I had about 4 floors and a basement and all was going great. Then I added one more floor and my tenant started to complain that there was a hole in the building. I searched everywhere, and there are no places where there is a gap in the wall or in the background. My tenant went POOF after a few seconds.

I sealed off the top floor, and almost immediately a new tenant appeared. Since I can find no gaps, it made me wonder if there is a limit to how large the building can be. Has anyone else ran into something like this? Thanks in advance!

I turned a ruined Hylotl castle into my base and have been slowly adding quarters for staff/tenants all over the place. If my huge pagoda dungeon isn't too big for colonists, I'm sure your tower isn't either.

However, when building things on top of existing tenant structures, it's important to make sure that the tenant's space is always closed off. I used dirt barriers around the places where I'm building to prevent accidentally creating holes in the structure - only when I'm pretty sure I've got everything fully patched up and watertight do I remove the dirt to give them access to the new area. Another way you could handle it would be to build all the rooms first, then start adding the tenants when construction is complete.

Hmm... OK. I must just have a leak then. I guess I can tear down what I built and re-do it just to be sure.

I only need one of the Colony Deeds, right?

You need one deed per tenant, as well as one door and one light source. Even if they are all in the same large building, each door/light source area counts as one 'house'. And you shouldn't have to tear it all down - just go over all of your structure with a background block of your choice. I think that if you have a foreground block as a wall, but no background block behind it, that counts as a leak, so that may be what's tripping you up.

I don't think that's the case, I build rooms with no background wall behind the foreground blocks and my tenants don't complain.

I think platforms don't count as blocks for the purpose of housing. But I can't test that as I'm at work.

Hmm. Maybe an open spot where a window should be then?
