I understand it's part of the Dev's plans to make a home world system whereby you can claim a planet as your own, name it and terraform it. I don't know if it's going to be possible to colonise multiple planets but I think there should be some kind of system to it.

Over time, researchers and engineers on your station will build a "Colonisation Module" that contains basic supplies and amenities required to start of a colony. This can be placed on any habitable planet. From hear you'll have a "build menu" from which you can construct all the various functional buildings/"crafting areas."

Once your first colony has reached a certain point, your research team will begin creating another colony module. As you grow and complete colonies, more modules will become available to you.

For single player, there should be an overall cap on your allowed number of colonies. For multiplayer, server owners should be able to adjust the number of colonies allowed per player, as well as an overall cap for everyone.

My idea for setting up colonies is that you could lay down certain deployable equipment. Examples could be a sensor dish to detect nearby lifesigns, defense turrets to keep out nearby hostiles. Maybe even stuff like oil rigs and other machinery to gather necessary resources without having to do it manually. Maybe you're on a world with no breathable atmosphere and your colony is within a biosphere. Equipment like oxygen generators could make the local area breathable but not the whole planet.

This idea kinda reminds me of the game SPORE. A little later in the game, you get pods that house small colonies. I think that this is a great idea, and you should be able to build teleporters that allow you to jump from one colony to the next.
