the other day in starbound I was exploring and realised that there was a snow planet as the closest one to the sun in one solar system I continued looking around and it happened 5 more times. I am not sure about this because I cannot code but why not try and make it so that magma or desert biomes are closer and snow and moon biomes are farther?

Well a planet being closer to its sun dosn't necessarily mean it will have a hotter environment the planets atmosphere could be blocking most of the radiation coming from its sun therefore making it colder, such as if earth had no atomosphere it would be a scorching wasteland like mercury.

Really support this idea, although maybe with some leeway.

Variety is the Spice of the Universe is a mod which does precisely this, along with some other tweaks to the planetary generation scheme, that leads to a much more improved system.

They really should have taken this mod into the fold of the universe, instead of adding a new race. Not that there is anything wrong with Novakids, it's just that the game isn't lacking in choice for races, but it is lacking in realism and a science fictiony feel on so many fronts.

1: The Devs acknowledge this and have made efforts to improve the coordinate seeds and world generation procedures using start size, star color, and distance from the star to encourage specific biome types to be more likely within reasonable ranges. however I doubt they will make any one biome ever excluded from any positon for any reason so while it will become considerable less likely to find a snow biome near a giant yellow star whole in its corona, it will not be impossible just to through a curve ball into things. never know when atmostpheric gasesmight cause endothermic reactions and start getting colder as more solar energy is applied to them. We see this all the time with sports icepacks, so not an entire atmosphere?

Variety is the Spice of the Universe did it, and I think it's really cool they did.
