The majority of the content isn't even in the game right now so all these points just seem premature. They are the way they are now but they're destined to be changed so any debate about it seems silly in that regard since the developers already know that content is missing. There are books though that give codex entries sort of like Mass Effect and they tell you the lore or places or Gods or whatever. I've found death cultists by giant death shrines decked out as I'd expect them to be. Prison riots where guards are overwhelmed by my having pressed the release panel and flooding the prisoners with dudes.

We just got pets in the game. We do have spawners so we could spawn our own villagers, merchants, and guardsmen. So bringing an NPC back isn't something out of the question - whether it is planned or not I don't know but I doubt it'd be that difficult to implement.

I got into Sector X and looked at what I needed to make my armor. I went to level appropriate planets, mined like a nutjob with a drill, and then moved along. Constantly making the armor, upgrade schematic, and weapon before shifting to a higher tier planet. It is remarkably easy and I did it over the course of several planets electing deserts as a primary target for their high yield sandsurfing.

I also recommend anyone who finds a bomb vendor to stock up, as bomb mining is insanely effective but expensive, and the armor you have will keep you from being damaged. I didn't do that for the majority of the mining though, just stuck with my drill.

The majority of content COMING is based on our suggestions though. So we have to give them some idea on how to improve.
I agree, more stuff is being added. I don't debate that they are working very hard to add to this game.

I believe the devs mentioned the reason the game is like this right now is because they were trying to artificially inflate gameplay to keep players occupied during the beta. Think about it, there's just not enough stuff in this game for it to be non-linear to keep people interested before completing everything, getting bored, and moving on to the next game.

How did you even get a drill inside of 2 hours?

More to the point, you found it easy, that time.

I could lobby for an accurate geological model where ore finding was based on interpreting graphic logs and maps of gravatic anomalies while factoring in elemental affinities via electronegitivity. I'm a geologist that would be first choice and second nature to me, but a lay person would find it an awful slog, that would no more make the Starbound: for rockhounds too easy than the current version is made too easy by your experience.

This is key because they cannot make the game just for you, or just for me, they need a wider net.

Errr, I never said it was because of my opinions, if the game was made to my opinions the playerbase would dwindle to near nothing, seriously look at my history of posting, I've always been for player choice in nearly everything I've discussed and debated, because giving someone the choice of doing it or not (In this instance, difficulty modes etc) is always the lesser of two evils, because you satisfy two parties instead of one. "This is beta. Not Alpha" Here we go with this again. We all know the wiki entrance from Wikipedia by HEART at this point. The devs say it's their Beta, therefore it's Beta. I don't care what it's "supposed" to be. Content can be added after a Beta is launched, see Triple A companies disguise it as "DLC" now, the things you pay for 9.99 for a map, or two.

You're post was a troll post, you made so many ignorant points, or told so many blatant lies, in such a way as if you were trying to provoke an arguement from someone, that's quite literally trolling. You never discussed a way to IMPROVE the game in your post, just said why it was bad, and what you've accomplished, that isn't trying to improve the game, that is not criticizing in a constructive manner, that is senseless griping in the hopes to troll.

There are no end-game bosses, because the game is not finished yet, stop playing, come back when it's full release, that's the only solution to this, they said before Beta was released the game would in no way have everything in it, and would not have all of the Tiers available for play, if you didn't read that, you aren't reading, so stop typing, start reading, and stop trolling. Just because they serve no power-gaming purpose, does not mean they don't serve a purpose, what you're saying is 100% opinion, and in no way grounded to the game itself. An item does not NEED to serve a hard gameplay/stat mechanic to be part of the game. If that was the case the game would only have three types of blocks. Soft, Hard, Cascading, the fact they have different skins and different cosmetic looks, serve no purpose except to make it a more enjoyable experience for builders and explorers alike. They may not be a benefit way combat wise, again that doesn't mean they have no purpose. (See all clothes in the game ever.) This is a very limited, and shallow way to look at the game, and gameplay. IT's power-gaming at it's worst. It's the equivalent of saying, because Monks are bad in D&D 3.5 they should be REMOVED, because you don't like them, and they aren't as usefull as a Wizard.

Terraria? Really? 99% of that game's loot was total shit, much like you're saying this game's is, all it served was a cosmetic or look cool purpose. Pre 1.2 you used a MegaShark with crystalline ammo, Pre Hardmode you used a Masamune, Post 1.2 you use Spectre Armor with the Bat Staff, or Magnetic Sphere, there is no purpose to anything else in the game, as these things represent the best statwise, can get through Terraria never having to use the Starfury, or Sunfury, infact they are vastly inferior weapons, but they look cool, so they serve a purpose, just not in a combat benfically way.

I've found recipes for armor, I've found valuable ores, bombs, cool vanity items, different colored flashlights. (Purely cosmetic, but awesome to have a green flashlight IMO) . I'm assuming you meant Avian, not the often radical racist American sect of people here, but no you don't find a boss, YET. Alot of that content isn't out and added yet, wait till full release to play, as you've obviously judging this game as if it were a full release, not a game in it's infant stages. As for backstory? I've actually found some lore about the places I'm looting, they come in the form of a codex you add to your own.

Different biomes are- as far as I'm aware- mostly there for cosmetic purposes, to break the same old, same old feeling. The crystal biome isn't just a different texture by the way, especially seeing as there are two seperate crystal biomes, found in vastly different places in the game. As far as I'm picking up from your post, you want every single biome, and every single mini-biome, to have it's own exclusive armor-set, monster-set boss, dungeon, and a backstory all it's own. During the game's early beta/infant stage...you realize most games NEVER give you that right, and if they do it's in the form of mini-purchases and more DLC to get. Again though, I'll grant you that the game needs more incentive to explore instead of mine, this way power-gamers, or rush gamers don't spend all their time on one planet to get everything, then complain that there's nothing to explore.

I tried debating you like an adult,t he problem is, I'm the only one doing so, you didn't make any points in your initial arguement, it was all constant bickering and complaining, with no proposed solutions, much as this post is, you still aren't posting solutions to the problems you're complaining about, that's kind of our job as beta testers. You aren't GIVING SUGGESTIONS to be improved on. "The game needs to make exploring better" is not a suggestion, except perhaps in it's rawest and most useless form. I'm not being an elite beta tester, a hardcore gamer, a "newbzsuklol"person or any of it. I'm calling out a troll who doesn't care about the game in it's slightest by how you're posting. Because I do care about the game and would love to see it go places as Minecraft and Terraria did, if not further.

This game won't stay in it's infant stages because the Dev team knows what they are doing, they have a ton of people backing them and helping them however we can, I'm not yelling troll at every critical remark, infact this is only maybe the 3rd or 4th time I've called someone a troll, because you're obviously baiting and trolling, your actual posts have no content or purpose past that, unless you're blatantly complaining without giving a solution to fix the things you're complaining about,t hat's what alot of us "elite beta testers" are annoyed by. You're missing the point of a beta.

    Edit:
The drill is unlocked at Tier 3, it's super easy to make. You just need ore, really it's simple. I agree that we can't make the game to suit each individual person, that'd take to long. :) We can however add difficulty modes, and difficulty options, so that each person has a unique and enjoyable experience though, which is what I'd like to see. As for your proper geo-mining, I have no concept of it, but I'd love to try it! Why? Because I'm a gamer who enjoys innovation, and I wouldn't mind in the least having to take the time to learn something advanced so I can enjoy a game I'm hyped about, I'm an odd-ball though I admit this.

You misread. I specifically said Aegisalt gear to Imperivum in two hours. Before that the pace was steady but not nearly as fast as it was from that point on. I didn't even suggest they alter anything based on my experience other than what they're already going to do: make bunches of rare/uncommon ore less common. It is plentiful for now and reducing their rates back to normal will curb the breakneck pace the last tiers suffer from.

It is easy all around because of how insanely abundant ore is in general beyond the starting planets. But like I said this isn't the "release" state of the game. It is earrrrly beta and going to change.

ah ok, in addition to being a Geologist, I'm also dyslexic. :/

and, Tier 3 would be after defeating the robot? If so, no drills are at least one above that or I hit a bug. Either way the Tier gating of what we can make is a clunky immersion breaking synthetic limit.

You know, the two complaints on this forum that are the most ironic put together are the lack of incentives to explore and the high pixel costs for crafting.

Those two aspects of the game basically cancel each other out when you consider that completing a dungeon can earn you several thousand pixels at bare minimum.

Not every thread has to evolve into sophisticated suggestions. In this case the OP made that post because he felt he wasn't given all the toys from the start.

And since that's not going to change(don't even have to take my word for it), the topic is as good as done.

My greatest complaint about this game is that I can have hundreds of pieces of iron ore in my backpack, but it's useless until I find all the copper or silver I need to craft a suit of armor that I will own for about 30 seconds before I use it to craft the armor I actually want

The copper set isn't as bad, because early on copper is usually easier to find than iron as far as I've seen, but silver?

By the time I can make silver armor, I'm already equipped to make steel

While I can agree for the most part, I have no incentive to explore other then to see pretty stuff or steal furniture, because I get all of my pixels by mining on the same desert planet as forever, because Refineries give you all the pixels you could need. I'd like to see ore-types limited by planet/biome so that you have to explore to get everything you need.

I can see and appreciate this point alot, alot of my ores (Namely Silver and Gold) are just churned into the refinery as soon as I get them for this reason. There's no purpose at all to it after a certain point, however. I feel this will change as the wiring system is more flushed out, and home-worlds are made to be more important then they currently are, as you'll need auto-mated defenses, traps, wired doors, etc to colonize harder planets. (At least that's my hope) giving longevity and reason to the low-tier ores, on high-tier planets.

This stops when you get to Aegisalt in the game's current incarnation. The prior gear requirement is nixed and all you need to do is use current tier mats to unlock the next tier's schematics.

So, was nice discussing the game with you. You had some interesting points.

My main issue is that the game is too linear. You can't go to the next tier of planets until you're capable of taking them on. That's not right. You should be able to access harder planets before you have the gear to survive the monsters there. I liked the idea of being able to see a more dangerous planet and having to decide if I wanted to risk it or not before I was able to go there with proper gear. That was a challenge that I feel we missed out on.

The game is just way too linear.

A friend and I went to a high threat area before the change. It was exhilarating excavating huge parts of the map trying to find loot and ores while avoiding the monsters. We had to be so cautious that it would have seemed boring from an outside perspective but I loved it. Being one shot for a silly mistake was intense.

That was also pre bird fix when if one of those guys caught wind of you... it was a 1 shot machine that hunted to the tune of Never Give You Up.

Fun is subjective. What you think is pointless, boring, or stupid someone else may find fun and vice versa. Get over yourself.
