EDIT: I want to thank everyone who actually took the time to reply in a constructive manner.

I will not be returning to these god awful forums as within 2 hours the post was overcome by angry gamers not adding anything - just shouting about who is right. Don't worry - this isn't something isolated to here and to be honest and fair to you guys it's nowhere near as bad as I've experienced before.

I assumed beta testing was talking about things you find good/bad with fellow gamers and devs. Instead I have been educated and now realise that it's about sitting down, shutting up and getting what you're given. I mean, could you imagine - consumers trying to shape the product they're buying into? Madness.

I tried to offer my own ideas and encourage others to share theirs - instead I got "You're right." "You're wrong." and then a bunch of stuff calling me obnoxious/ignorant/assholish. Disagreeing with my views is totally 110% cool, but to start insulting me - or each other - for what we all believe is a totally unnecessary step.

If you want to just post "ha he got butthurt and left we win" then do it, nobody's going to stop you. I just expected a little respect - and the lack of it was disheartening. It's not bad on me for being offended - it's bad on you for being offensive.

If you think so much of yourself that just because -you- can do something and enjoy it, you can't see a single problem with it please leave this plane of existence, because it's worrying.

Thanks to everyone who tried to be constructive and cool with me - everyone else... Well, we're all entitled to our own opinions right? ^.^

The point is, that your kids are more important no matter what. Go be with them, love them no matter what they do.And the Developers are hard at work and have things they do that we don't need to know that involves their personal life, thus sometimes keeping them from working, but its ok.

 

I read it. And I understand the frustration. It is indeed in phase 1 of the beta that the devs wanted it to be in, so not all of the content is in the game yet.

 

This post is much longer than any information you've cared to read about Starbound.

I recommend doing some more research, and then taking a long break from the game until later stages of the beta. Or release. Then come back to this thread and see how things are different than you thought.

Preach it! the Pixel grind, the tier gating of craftables, are huge problems right now, I was spinning up a post very similar to this and you saved me the bother.

 

I'm too tired to read the whole post so I only read what I quoted. I agree that I hope it gets to be more of a sandbox once more content is added. Right now I feel like I'm school again. Do alot of work to get ready for a test. Pass the test to move on to the next grade. Repeat.

I'd much rather progression be more open. Sprinkle the danger levels through out the universe and let me find/run from them as chance would have it.... just like the real world.

Where do I find this research? Every forum I've gone through has either been people with posts like this being hated at and told to "do research" or just people saying how great it is and how much they can't wait for more.

I'm not trying to hate on the game, I'm just struggling to buy into it.

 

Just FYI, the "in universe" explanation is that pixels are basically analogous to nanites. They are a multi-purpose building block material used to fabricate the little bits and pieces and to assemble the project using 3D printing techniques - the fact they are "pixels" not say, nanites is a tongue in cheek nod to the fact the game is 2D and thus made of pixels (hence compressed pixels are "voxels" a reference to pixel's 3-dimensional counterpart.

Like when you have a paint tool, the titanium paneling and the inks are bulk components you can produce, but you don't also have to harvest the pieces to make a plastic trigger and metallic trigger components, build you own gas cannister or rig the pressure hoses. You just get the larger bulkier components of what you need and print the fiddly bits needed to assemble the finished product using "pixels".

Well, if you want to build a castle, you can. If you want to slay bugs, you definitely can. What I got from your argument is that pixels and crafting tiers somehow prohibit you from doing so. This is definitely not the case, and I don't really see how that even makes sense. If that's not what you were saying, then do try to make your argument more cohesive, hm?

 

Those were metaphors for being able to whatever you want in a literal sandbox. And unless I want to make a dirt castle, or slay the weakest enemies it does stop me doing that, because the whole game seems to be one long and tedious grind to do anything more.

 

I'm sure there is/will be a mod that will give you all the pixels you want.

 

To all the people yelling at the OP because its still an early beta and he's criticising it... That's the point, without observations like this which he at least took time to explain, all they would get is blind praise which teaches nothing.

Its better than the glut of one line complaints I see littering the forums. If you have problems with his or her points, address those points.

 

Understandable. But not all of the content is in the game yet.

 

So what it all boils down to is that you want to do everything in the beginning without having to work for it. You just want to be given all the possible things without taking time to earn it all?

I do understand that to some people, the idea of having to have a copper pickaxe before you can have the other kinds is a bit restrictive. I'll say that much. Though most of the problems seem to be an issue of overblowing things.

 

Let me guess, the only other sandbox game you've ever played was Skyrim.

My guess was spot on.
