Closed Beta Forums

I want to apologize if this question has been asked already and if I should've put this in the beta thread, but I felt like it was more of a topic concering the forums and the overall feedback a player can provide then the game itself.

My question is: Will there be a specific area in the forums only beta testers can access? So the devs can easily filter for constructive information rather than wade through tons of threads that are made by people who don't participate in the beta? I wouldn't want them to be closed off entirely though. Non-testers could still view this special forum section, but posting would be a privilege of the testers of course.

What do you think of this or are there any infos on this?

There will probably just be a section where people can report bugs
and maybe one to discuss beta (so that people who don't want to play until release won't see too many spoilers).

I don't think a closed section only for beta-testers is necessary, especially considering a lot of stuff on the forums is done manually,
and the mods don't want to go through thousands of people and appoint them as beta-testers.

 

That would be great BUT
If someone purchased the pixel tier, they were not able to get a forum badge and there's no sign anywhere that they have the Beta. That would be kind of hard to sort out, I believe that only Humble Bundle have the e-mails of those, who purchased starbound and not the devs (why would they need them anyway). So how this would work out?

 

You have a point there. Maybe you would need to message the devs and tell them your user name here at the forums and your game key that was provided to you. Your name would then be put into a list to allow you entering the beta section. But I guess this would be waaaay to tedious, if there wasn't a way to automate it and not do it manually. This would be insane.

 

all beta testers should get a badge for it.
all people with the badge should be able to post on that forum.

 

Or that. Good idea actually. I don't think it would be too much of a problem to "hand out" another kind of badges in hindsight.

 

There's no forum code that allows the mods to do that. And like Space Monkey and I said, doing it manually is out of the question.

Why would you need it it to be closed anyway? People who don't want to see it won't look, and people who post useless threads will be notified by the mods. It isn't a big deal.

Haha, I kinda calmed down again. Though I now force myself to stay away from threads where I suspect a flamewar could ensue. ^^ Recent and best example was Tiys post about release delays. I had to close the tab after a while of reading the responses before I would explode in a flame of anger.
