Clone Issues

I think the cloning thing would work if, yes, it was never explained.
You can't prove that it does or doesn't happen.
And I think I'm going to go call a doctor after reading Red's post

Oh, that reminds me of Infinity Blade. Each time you die, the scene opens back up with "11 Years later" and the character that you control says "Father, I will avenge you."
But I suppose it works a lot better with Mario, considering he doesn't have any equipment/weapons to carry into his next life.

Perhaps all Marios that live in the Mushroom Kingdom wear the same clothes?

This is actually the theory behind the "transporters" in Star Trek. The consciousness (since some people don't like the word soul) follows the data stream because it is bound to its body in some way.

Cloning is not the only possibility.

 

Have you seen Sync by Bammo in youtube? A guy have a clone of himself already and when he dies all of his memories are dumped into the clone in a matter of seconds. [Link]

 

yeah, could be true, but think about it. if your clone is a perfect copy of you in all matters and purpose, than nobody will know he's not the original, not even himself. he'll just believe he's the real one.
so in that way, the consciousness problem you raised dosent matter at all. problem solved !

 

This would be THE best idea. After you die, you must redesign your character. It would be a good option, maybe unique to one race.

Personally I'd be annoyed by this, because I want my character THAT WAY, not any other way.
Maybe for an option to disable it?

Remember, Tiy did say there would be benefits if you managed to clear the game with the original character (in other words, a passive sort of Hardcore mode).

Anyhow, perhaps we're thinking into it just a biiiit too deeply. From what I can tell, the game doesn't seem to want to take itself too seriously.

Also I'm trying to find out where it said cloning was the respawn method, I know it's in Blue's "List of Announced Game Information" thread somewhere. I swear I saw it the other day.

 

Yeah...I missed it too. I know Tiy liked Borderlands...and cloning is the respawn mechanic in Borderlands...anybody have a link to the source?

I think clone respawning was just a suggestion & not an actual fact or feature of the game, but I could be wrong.

 

See the thing is that I put up this post after reading it on the announcements, so I swear it's out there.
