This is great! Most of these (Like the wall to wall megaman style jumping) would have to be restricted to agility based classes and NPC's/Mobs. This would make defending your structures a bit more fun. Like say a creature that could imitate the behavior of a fast zombie from HL2, which leaps at its target when it is at a distance. Increase the arc of the jump, and make it so that if they hit a wall, they start climbing up and making a path around the player.
Sounds fun, but I think that some of these abilities would need to either be learned from trainers or would need certain items. Keep those ideas coming.
I would love to see this type of interaction in the game, like in Terraria you couldn't climb without the grappling hook, this would make things more interactive. No longer would you have to suffer from a simple wall to ledge jump - which in Terraria you'd have to put a brick underneath to get up. I just think that would make things nicer, so I'm totally with this suggestion. Also climbing of course. Should add "Wall to Wall / Ledge Jumping" to the list also, as in real life you'd be able to jump from one wall to the other, and then climb up from the ledge. Also Horizontal +Vertical Wall Climbing, where if the walls are close enough to each other, you'd be able to climb up using both walls to assist against gravity. (Yes I know, you could place blocks underneath to climb faster, but still a cool thing to add). Oh and also... I imagined this like The Fancy Pants Adventure game, just a little different. Edit: Although I would understand the frustration of spriting all these animations, if you want it to look a lot nicer. Would be worth it in the end though if you ask me.
an addition yo your idea LordChickenMan:you mentioned a hook gun, and i was thinking if you want to go down a cliff all secret agent style you shoot the block at the top of the cliff and grapple-jump down. (attempting to be more detailed) the hook never leaves the block untill you reach the bottom, or release it manually. but you jump-swing down the cliff face, and if you run out of cliff you just slide down the rope. useful for cautiously exploring caves, in my mind at least.
Let me see if I got this... So to summarize: 1. You should be able to grab cliff edges and climb up (or down). (Includes NPCs and MOBs) 2. A new method for wall climbing/descending (be it rock climbing, or hand holds you can attach to walls, or both) (NPCs and Lighter mobs with grasping appendages can follow) 3. A modern gun version of the grappling equips 4. MegamanX style wall jumps/sliding down (if no hand holds or ledge) (could apply to some NPCs/MOBs) 5. Dodging techniques for ground (roll or slide depending on surface or speed or both) (could apply to some NPCs/MOBs) 6. Air dodging techniques..? 7. Some NPCs practice self defense with whatever is available while seeking shelter, or defend their ship/station/village. 8. a Special-Move button that is dynamic so as to do different things depending on location. (Grasp wall/ledge, slide/roll, somersault in air, taunt, etc...) I like the ideas and think they would be great.
Awesome idea! The animation of the dodging and the like would be brilliant if implemented, not to mention show how some NPC's/ MOB's have adaptered to their environment!
