I'm having hard time finding clay in 1.1. The nice "bug" is fixed :p.
How do you find clay easily? Thanks.

Just dig every worm-spot/upside-down-junimo you see and you gonna be drowning in clay in no time.

Since clay is no longer used for anything except building Silos and crafting Quality Retaining Soil-- kegs no longer require it-- my guess is that CA figures not very much of it will be needed anymore. It's a shame, from a resource standpoint clay /should/ have a lot more uses. I thought requiring it for kegs was fine, and I think any building project where 'waterproofing' was expected to be a concern should require some. I'd also still love to see some artistic uses for clay like pottery or making decorative flower pots. As of 1.1 clay has slipped from 'slightly useless' to 'mostly useless'.

I find plenty of clay, when you have nothing to do just go to the beach or the area by Robin's house just keep digging it pops up.

Till the worms. That's all you ever get.

The only thing you need it for anymore is the Silo, so it's not like you need more than twenty or thirty unless you go whole-hog on animals

Try using your hoe on the beach or in the mines on the dirt down there, they have a higher percentage chance of yielding clay than the dirt on your farm.

                Thanks for tips.
Maybe CA can add decorations made from clay.

I have more clay than I know what to do with. I grab the worms every time I see them. I've made 3 silos and I probably have 150+ clay now and I'm on 2nd Fall. If anything it seems you find MORE clay then you did Pre-1.1 (unless of course you were using exploits).

                      Fixed that for ya ;)

Seriously, I typically had around 120 kegs by the end of fall. The glitch was necessary in getting that much clay.

Now? I just need 10 clay for the silo, and I'm pretty much good to go.

It was not broken. One piece of clay per keg still means, 'slightly useless'. It had no other value aside from silos.

What I'm curious about is, does anyone even use Quality Retaining Soil? By the time you've gotten up to the skill where you can even craft it, you'd already have quality sprinklers anyhow. You'd be close to Iridium sprinklers, even-- if you're not already buying them from Krobus by that point. I can honestly say I've never crafted or bought any of the retaining soils and I'd like to hear if anyone else has found them useful.

Not I, that's for sure. Speed-Gro for some things, Fertilizer in the early game before you start brewing things and making the quality of base product irrelevant, but never water retaining soil.

Clearly, the intent was 'use rocks to save on endurance so you could do more mining/foraging/fishing in the earliest parts of the game, in your first spring', but it kinda fell flat.

The problem of retaining soil is that it's just a chance of having any effect, so whether it works or not, you still gonna have to go and check every tile every morning. I bet it would be a nice option if instead of that, it worked like "water once and it will stay watered for another x days". That would be much more effective regarding letting you do others stuff early or mid game even.

Agreed, a 'chance' is of little use when it still means you've got to walk all over your fields and water in a patchwork fashion to fill in whatever didn't last out the night. In fact for a lot of players with watering routines, it probably would either slow you down or at best mean you were watering those squares anyhow. For the retaining soils to be worth anything, they should work always, just in different durations. Perhaps one day for basic retaining soil, two for quality. That would even be of value for those times you needed to upgrade your watering can but the weather isn't cooperating.

Still useless after the first year, because any halfway decent player will be buying 1 I-Sprinkler from Krobus per week and will have at least 4 of them by 2nd Spring.

Sprinklers = Retaining Soil is useless.

Why would you ever plant anything outside of sprinkler range? That, and by 2nd Year, you probably have animals, gems, 2+ crystalariums churning out diamonds, kegs, bees, etc and you don't need quite as many crops.

Year 3 is even "worse" as far as uselessness of retaining soil goes -- I bet almost nobody actually uses a watering can by Year 3. If you haven't got I-Sprinklers out the wazoo by now, you're doing something wrong lol.

That's what it means to be something for "early or mid game even", sprinklers would basically become the infinite days upgrade over the 2~3 days retainer.
