Race Clara'an

Anyways, I'm currently working on the tron one. experiencing slight decision difficulties on whether or not to use "Pure" white pixels, or white pixels with extremely subtle difference in one area.

Pure White pixels being RGB 255

 

It's Tron, neon-looking bright colors are almost required.

 

this is the design using 255 White on all design pixels.
standard "black" Clara'an used as model, with custom eye.
I'm not sure I like it... but I'm no expert on Tron, and nobody from my reference pics had a helmet that I could easily catch a "light pattern" off of.

 

You could use 255, 255, 255 (pure white ) if you wanted to, or for a more tron-look, you could use a turquoise color: 0, 277, 277.
As for the "subtlety different pixels in random spots" appearance, it's more of a personal preference; however, if you're using a darker color, even a not very dark one, such as 0, 277, 277, it can greatly change the appearance of the sprite.

EDIT: The above sprite you made looks quite nice, although I would but some-what subtle shading around the larger streaks.

I'd have to make it completely in 0,277,277 and then mess around with the hue/saturation.

That looks pretty cool, I think. Would you be able to change the color of the lines ingame?

 

no clue. I may keep the "Tron" pattern, but I'm not sure if the effect could be achieved with official Starbound color selection.

 

It probably would be, if they use the sort of color selection thing that was in Terraria.

 

Or you could do that, and make the pixels around it whatever other color you want, you would just have to configure the design around the pixels of the other color(s) appropriately.

Actually, I'm really not that good at spriting , and I'm sure you could make one better; but thanks for the compliment anyway.

Yeah, this is a cool race, it's clear you've put a lot of time and effort into it. (Or, at least more than I would have. )

But seriously, nice job!

 

not sure if I should call the clock on the Tron design.
I'm in intermission and having loads of fun with the jaguar one.

EDIT :: once work is finished, I may seriously consider adopting the Jaguar one as my avatar if the avatar system doesn't stretch it out to derped levels.

*skims the thread* Actually, many of the pages consist of "sprite talk," as I would call it.

 

Sprite Editting is all I can do aside from expanding on Clara'an history.

My path to making the race more popular/notable is either through more walls of text... or the pretty pictures that people like.

 

Walls of Fle... Text are not enemies, neither are they badd(ies)!

 

which is why I try to do both... have something for everyone.
also, I wish someone had told me to do jaguar Clara'an before.
