California went from having Mad Max levels of water to issuing evacuation orders because so much rain has fallen in the last few months that there are a few levees that they don't anticipate holding for much longer.
There was a group trying to get a measure on the CA ballot to allocate funding to repair these levees and dams but I don't think they made it on. Forcing condoms for porn shoots did (didn't pass) but not repairing/extending the infrastructure vital to keeping a bunch of storms back to back from washing away cities.

I live in California and I am personally not affected. I don't think repairing the levees affect Los Angeles too much, since I didn't really hear about it in the news that much.

The group was mostly campaigning to augment and repair infrastructure around the Sacramento area, which includes the levee thats forcing the Sunday evacuation of Yolo county.
Furthermore, the group claimed that even with every reservoir at 100% capacity a dry spring would put the state back in a drought due to insufficient capacity for the ever increasing demand.
That is, ofc, ignoring the fact that LA gets its water from the Colorado river and the water projects that have been completed from the Sacramento River delta and otherwise along the Sac River.

The main thing is even if you don't have a cop knocking on your door warning you about an imminent levee failure (at the time they said you had less than an hour to escape) shitty water infrastructure affects everyone in the state (unless you own and operate a well on your property). Especially since up until last March there's been statewide restrictions on water including state-wide restrictions on when you can water your lawns. You can get a ticket for watering your lawn on the wrong day even today. Just because its no longer state-wide. Infact, many cities still enforce such restrictions (last week while at work I noticed the property's automatic sprinkler system earned my boss a ticket for wrong day watering). There was a huge outrage in this area during the state-wide ban because the area feels as though its responsible for providing LA's water alongside the Colorado river and has taken various measures to reduce water usage while some halfwit actor released a statement on how they should be allowed to still water their multi-acre lawn more frequently.

Anyway, water is important.
However, there are varying opinions on how adequate the state's water system is. Some feel its fine, others do not.

To be honest, we just got through a drought, so I'm not too personally worried, and although I do feel like I should, rotations and schools are keeping me well distracted.

But yeah, the levee does sound like a pretty seriously problem; then again, if there is a drought again, and we exhaust out water supplies, people will be even less inclined to fix the levee.
