Honestly I'm happy no-one died, it would've been cheesy. I'm just wondering where the put the other 11 episode's storytelling budget.
Animation/design for the whole thing sucked, honestly. The lack of shadows on faces/etc was jarring, made it look very unnatural/etc. Animation was janky/robotic. I hope these things both improve, honestly.
But, that said, transitional/setup volume for Volume 5, which I'm assuming is going to be the Fall of Mistral but maybe someone doesn't die this time.

 

Yeah, there were sections where it really was jarring, but there were also some really pretty areas too. On average it was a really pretty season, and I liked the brighter art direction they took this season.
And yeah, I'm also glad no one died, in part because the only people they could have easily killed were Sun and Qrow, whom I like. Some of the animation was a bit janky, but there were also some animations that were really nice and smooth. It basically averaged out all around, which isn't great.
(Although I did like that Ruby's letter was readable if you wanted. Nice detail, even if the room looked really out of place.)
I will say, the music was top notch. The Grimm Rider having Lusus Naturae subtly as his theme and the letter having Cold as it's theme, all great ideas and well executed. Those are some little things I really appreciate. (Although I feel like I should have recognized the song playing when Nora held Ren back, it's got to be one of those I don't listen to as much like Boop or Drams Come True.)
