Hello again, just heard about what's going on in Turkey. Is StrawHat alright?

Just caught wind of the news as well and was going to ask the same.
Hopefully things are relatively okay for him, things are getting seriously bad there from the sound of it.

Summary to the best of my knowledge would be: Apparantly it looks like the Turkish military is attempting a coup of the government there?

 

Yeah. Jist of it from what we know is that the military sees the current Turkish president as too autocratic and too for Islamic law and wants to restore secular government to the country. Looking at various Twitter feeds and such it doesn't look good, there's a lot of calling for blood. Supposedly the tvnetwork and social media has been closed in the entire country. Straw might not be able to message us.

Coups in turkey like this happen every 10 or so years give or take. 1913 1960 1971 1980 1993 1997 have been the years it happen. Turkey's political structure is deeply rooted in the belief that the military should intervene when the government is straying from the secular constitution. The military is independent from the government, but the police works for them and are currently under orders to arrest the military. Rockets have been fired and a helicopter has been reported downed. Leader of Turkey is encouraging others to protest the military coup on Twitter.

 

Yeah, The whole system is founded on Ataturk really loving secularism.

I mean, he did manage to get them to cozy up to Europe after 300 years of trying to conquer it, so it wasn't the dumbest idea.

 

I'm not sure where Straw precisely lives in Turkey but if he isn't in Istanbul he should be fine.

MORE NEWS: Edorgan is gonna land in a airport soon. Jets still firing because why not.

 

I hope he isn't in Ankara, there's open warfare going on there on the streets.

Reports on it seem off. Lots of unconfirmed attacks and the way it all benifits the current dictator wanna be makes it almost seem like some kind of plot.
I'm having trouble finding articles that agree with each other.
